‘Golden Baba’: Sadhu wears jewellery worth Rs 3 cr, |
They call him the Golden Baba -- he wears jewellery worth more than Rs 3 crore. And on Saturday, the ascetic from the famous Juna Akhada of Haridwar called on Agra’s top police officer, seeking security. The ascetic had gone to Ujjain’s most talked of Simhastha Kumbh. On his way back to Bareilly he spoke to Agra’s SSP Dr Preetinder Singh, seeking security from the top cop. Adhering to the baba’s request, the police provided him security till Agra. Baba was further advised to seek help from higher authorities in case he wanted security beyond Agra, the cop added.
The baba and his cavalcade created quite a stir when they drove into the Agra collectorate. People swarmed him to take selfies. Even complainants coming into the office joined the queue of eager fans waiting to get clicked with the baba, who had chunky chains around his neck and thick bracelets on both his arms .An ascetic and the yellow metal make for an odd combination. A sadhu is expected to shun the pulls of the material world, and live an austere life in search of God.“For me, the gold is devta (deity). I am at peace when I wear it so I have been wearing it since 1972,” he said.

Hated India since childhood, wanted to cause maximum damage: Headley |
Pakistani-American terrorist David Coleman Headley on Friday said he hated India ever since its planes bombed his school and killed staff during the India Pakistan war in 1971.
In his 26/11 testimony to Indian authorities today, Headley said he has looked to avenge that act ever since and that the school bombing prompted him to join the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
“Since childhood I have hatred against India and Indians and I wanted to cause maximum loss and damage. I have hated India because my school was bombed on December 7, 1971 by Indian planes... the school was destroyed and people who worked there died,” said Headley, who is serving a 35-year prison term in the US for his role in 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks that killed 166 people in 2008.
Giving a new twist to his testimony, Headley said then Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had visited his house a few weeks after his father's death.
"It is not correct to say that the then Prime Minister of Pakistan Yousuf Raza Gilani had attended the funeral of my father who passed away a month after the Mumbai terror attacks on 26/12/2008. In fact, he (Gilani) visited our house (in Pakistan) a few weeks thereafter," Headley told special judge G A Sanap, who is hearing the case against key 26/11 plotter Abu Jundal in the sessions court here. Abu Jandal is in Indian custody ever since his deportation from Saudi Arabia in 2012.
Headley's father, who died on 26 December 2008, was a former Director General of Radio Pakistan and worked for the Pakistani Embassy in Washington DC. His half-brother Danyal Gilani worked as a public relations officer at PM Gilani's office.
Headley told the court that his father was aware of his association with terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba.
"My father was aware of my association with LeT and he was not happy about it," he said.
When asked if it was true that his half-brother Daniel knew about his LeT connection, Headley just said he (Daniel) was not living in the same city (in Pakistan).
Headley also denied using Daniel's mobile phone during his visit to Pakistan before the dastardly strikes in Mumbai.
During his deposition, Headley said, "Saulat Rana, my friend in Pakistan, was aware of my connection with LeT and my visit to Mumbai prior to the 26/11 attacks."
"Rana neither objected nor encouraged me," he told the court. On whether Rana was associated to LeT, Headley said, "No". When asked whether he (Headley) toured Pakistani locations with Rana before the Mumbai attacks, he replied in the negative and wondered why he would go around in Pakistan when the target was India.
Headley also told the court that he had no knowledge of any women's or a suicide-bomber cell in LeT.
When asked if he was treated for any mental illness, Headley replied in the negative and chuckled, "Yeh kya kya cheeze mere khaate mein daal rahe hain Wahab Sahab. Nahin, aisa koi wakya nahin hua (Wahab Sahab, what all things are you ascribing to me... nothing of this sort happened)." Abdul Wahab Khan is Abu Jandal's lawyer who has objected to Headley being made an approver in the 26/11 case.
Headley also said that he does not know who decided the date for the first attack (failed one in Mumbai).
Headley told court he had ‘arranged’ a fund-raising programme for the Shiv Sena in the US and had planned to invite the then party supremo Bal Thackeray to the event.
The terrorist said that Sena man Rajaram Rege had told him Thackeray was sick and that his son or another officials might attend the programme.
To a query whether LeT was in the know, Headley said he had discussed about the fund-raising programme with the terror outfit.
Headley also replied in the negative when asked whether he was in constant touch with US investigation authorities from 1988 to 2008.
He refuted allegations that US agencies were financing him. "It is baseless to say that my movement to Pakistan was known to US agencies."
He also said it would be incorrect to say that FBI had not insisted on fines to be imposed on him in the US court on account of his role in the 26/11 attacks.
"This is not true. It is not FBI's job to insist on fines in the court," he said.
He also denied that in collusion with FBI, he had saved USD 30 lakh fine amount and that because of this, the agency had not insisted on death penalty or life term.
Headley had on Thursday specifically named late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray and said that LeT wanted to target the leader. Headley also mentioned about a person who attempted to kill Bal Thackeray and was detained by the police, but escaped from police custody.
While answering questions asked by advocate Khan Abdul Wahab, the defence lawyer of Zabiuddin Ansari alias Abu Jundal, Headley revealed some new important facts, including that his visit for reconnaissance of targets in Mumbai for the 26/11 terror attack was FUNDED by Pakistani intelligence agency ISI.
“LeT wanted to eliminate Shiv Sena chief… His name was Bal Thackeray,” said Headley when the defence lawyer asked him the purpose of his visit to Shiv Sena Bhavan in Dadar. When asked if LeT made any more attempts on Bal Thackeray’s life, Headley replied that he did not have first-hand knowledge of it, but according to him there was an attempt on his life and the person who tried to attack him was detained by the police and escaped from custody later. Headley could not furnish any further details about this attempt. He also said that he had visited Shiv Sena Bhavan twice and he was not aware who else was on LeT’s list apart from Bal Thackeray.

ISIS Leader Baghdadi Injured |
ISIS Leader Baghdadi Injured, 'Survival a Miracle': Iraqi PM
Islamic State's self-proclaimed caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi has reportedly been seriously injured in an Iraqi airstrike, the Iraqi Prime Minister told Arab newspaper Al Hayat on Tuesday.
Haidar al-Abadi told the newspaper that the ISIS leader was wounded along the Iraq-Syria border city of Al-Qa'im and has since moved to "another location", according to Al Arabiya.
"His survival was a miracle," said Abadi, adding that Baghdadi spent most of his time in Syria, not Iraq.
This is not the first time that Baghdadi is believed to have been injured. Last year, he was believed to have been 'killed' in a US-coalition airstrike. However, he later 'emerged' through an audio message calling for the expansion of the caliphate, especially into the neighbouring Saudi Arabia.

Rams owner planning L.A. stadium |
The St. Louis Rams could be headed back to Los Angeles as early as 2016.
A year after purchasing 60 acres of land in Inglewood adjacent to the Forum and Hollywood Park, Rams owner Stan Kroenke has teamed up with the owners of the Hollywood Park site to build an NFL stadium, the Hollywood Park Land Company announced Monday. Stockbridge Capital Group, which owns the 298-acre Hollywood Park site, already had plans for a mixed-use community on the land that formerly housed the famed thoroughbred racing track, which closed in late 2013. Signature gathering will begin soon for an initiative that would place the "City of Champions Revitalization Project" on the Inglewood municipal ballot in 2015.
As described in the ballot measure, the 298-acre project will include a stadium of up to 80,000 seats and a performance venue of up to 6,000 seats while reconfiguring the previously approved Hollywood Park plan for up to 890,000 square feet of retail, 780,000 square feet of office space, 2,500 new residential units, a 300-room hotel, and 25 acres of public parks, playgrounds, open space and pedestrian and bicycle access. The stadium authorized by the ballot measure will be designed by HKS, Inc., one of the world's leading firms for the design of sports and entertainment complexes. A successful ballot measure would shorten the timeframe for Inglewood's approval of a stadium, and would mean that professional sports could return to Inglewood in 2018. Many proposed stadium plans have come and gone in the hopes of bringing the NFL back to Los Angeles after the city lost both the Raiders and Rams after the 1994 season, but none of those plans were ever backed by a current NFL owner capable of moving his team into the country's second-largest market.
The Rams are expected to convert their lease at St. Louis' Edward Jones Dome to a year-to-year agreement later this month and, if the team and the city fail to come to an agreement to build a new stadium, the Rams could move back to the area it called home from 1946 to 1994. "We are excited to unveil an expanded plan that will bring a world-class sports and entertainment district to Hollywood Park," Terry Fancher, founder of Stockbridge, said in a release. "We are committed to working with [the Kroenke Group] to build a project that will put Inglewood back on the map as home of the truly great sports and entertainment venues." Signature gathering will begin soon for an initiative that would place the City of Champions Revitalization Project on the Inglewood municipal ballot in 2015.
Developers of the project asid that no tax dollars would be used for the construction project -- including the stadium and more than 4 million square feet of retail, office, hotel and residential space -- which could be completed by 2018. Before construction can begin, however, the project must pass several political and environmental hurdles and the Rams must, of course, commit to moving back to Los Angeles after the 2015 season. Any NFL franchise interested in relocating for the next season would have to apply between Jan. 1 and Feb. 15 of that year, according to league bylaws, and prove it has exhausted all attempts to remain in its current location. The earliest a team could relocate to Los Angeles would be January 2016, and that team would likely play in either the L.A. Coliseum or the Rose Bowl until a new stadium is completed. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said last month that no teams would be moving to Los Angeles for the 2015 season.
The two teams that have always made the most sense to relocate to Los Angeles are the last two NFL teams to leave Los Angeles 20 years ago: the Oakland Raiders and the Rams. The Raiders' lease to play at O.co Coliseum, formerly known as the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, has expired, and the team is now on a year-to-year agreement. Meanwhile, the Rams can get out of their lease agreement with the St. Louis Convention and Visitors Commission to play at the Edward Jones Dome, as well. The third team in play for L.A., the San Diego Chargers, can announce its intention to leave San Diego between Feb. 1 and May 1 of each year through 2020 if it pays an early-termination fee tied to the bonds used to expand Qualcomm Stadium in 1997.
The original plan for Hollywood Park, which is 3 miles east of the Los Angeles International Airport, included the construction of 2,995 homes, 620,000 square feet of retail space and 25 acres of parks. A major park called Champion Park is slated to be constructed as part of the first phase. There are two other stadium proposals currently on the table for NFL stadiums in Los Angeles. The Anschutz Entertainment Group, the company behind Farmers Field, a proposed $1.5 billion football stadium and convention center expansion in downtown Los Angeles, got a six-month extension in October to its existing agreement with the city of Los Angeles for the project. AEG requested an extension to allow for additional time to pursue an NFL team and to further assess and develop an alternative development plan for the expansion and modernization of the Los Angeles Convention Center and the potential construction of another large hotel at L.A. Live.
It committed to spend up to $600,000 over the next six months to commission designs for a proposed alternative plan for the convention center expansion and improvement, as well as the possibility of an additional 750-room hotel adjacent to L.A. Live and the Convention Center. A competing stadium proposed by real estate magnate Ed Roski in the City of Industry, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, has been deemed shovel-ready for years. But as is the case with Farmers Field, it needs a long-term commitment from an NFL team before construction can begin. Roski's 600 acres in the City of Industry could be used for commercial development if a stadium never materializes. Nearly 20 years ago, NFL owners approved a plan to build a new, privately financed $200 million stadium in Hollywood Park to keep the Raiders in town after the Rams had already bolted for St. Louis.
The stadium would have been the home of the Raiders, at least two future Super Bowls and potentially a second NFL team. Raiders owner Al Davis, however, balked at the idea of sharing a stadium with a second team and headed back to Oakland. Two decades later, the NFL could be looking at a return to Los Angeles and to the last, best stadium proposal the city had to keep the NFL in the first place.

Trisha-Rana Daggubati Breakup? |
Reports from Tollywood say that Trisha and Rana Daggubati, who were going around as a cute pair, have separated due to some ‘misunderstanding’. Rana, who starred in Ajith’s Arrambam, is younger to Trisha but was rumoured to be in love with her.
Ragini Dwivedi, who starred in ‘Jayam’ Ravi’s Samuthirakani-directed Nimirndhu Nil, is said to be the reason for the split in relationship between Rana and Trisha. The couple’s relationship had never been steady and it was always the case of ‘on-again’ and ‘off-again’. Rana’s name, in particular, had been linked with many actresses in the past including a leading Bollywood starlet.
After meeting for the first time at an awards ceremony, it is said that Rana and Ragini started sharing pleasantries and calling each other regularly. In no time, Rana and Ragini started meeting frequently in Hyderabad and this apparently led to the break-up of Rana with Trisha.
Trisha, who was not aware of Rana’s new relationship, was upset when she heard about his regular meetings with Ragini when she was out in Chennai to shoot her Ajith-starrer Yennai Arindhaal.. This became the reason for their separation, it is said. Hints of their break-up were confirmed after Rana and Trisha ‘unfollowed’ each other on Twitter a few weeks ago.

Assange Lawyers File Swedish Court Appeal to End Arrest Warrant |
Julian Assange's Swedish lawyers on Tuesday filed a court petition to withdraw an arrest warrant for the WikiLeaks founder who has spent two years at Ecuador's London embassy to avoid extradition to Sweden.
Assange faces allegations of sexual assault and rape in Sweden, which he denies. He says he fears Sweden could in turn extradite him to the United States to be tried for one of the largest leaks of classified information in U.S. history.
Thomas Olsson, one of Assange's lawyers, said the arrest warrant should be repealed because it cannot be enforced while Assange is in the embassy and the Swedish prosecutor had not considered the possibility of interrogating him in London. "In light of the significant impact this has on Assange's ability to move freely and to live a normal life, we think that it is unreasonable to uphold the decision," Olsson told Reuters.
"As I see it, the arguments for the unreasonableness of the situation are very strong, so we have very strong hopes that the court will change the decision." Ecuador, which has granted Assange political asylum, wants London to assure him safe passage to Quito. But Britain has surrounded the Ecuadorean embassy with police officers round the clock ready to detain him if he leaves it. The South American country said last week that talks with Britain over Assange were at an impasse.

Mohammed Shami weds Kolkata Girl, Dad Says Lady Luck Will Smile in England
Mohammed Shami has married his model girl-friend Hasin Jahan at a private ceremony in Moradabad on Friday. The 24-year-old Shami, who lives in Kolkata and plays Ranji Trophy for Bengal, met Hasin at an Indian Premier League event a couple of years ago. Like many international sportspersons, Shami too took a liking for models. Speaking to sports.ndtv.com, Shami's father Tauseef Ahmed said the Nikkah was at 4 pm and the reception was at 7 in the evening. It was a family affair and some close friends were invited. "We didn't invite Shami's Indian teammates as we were not sure about their schedule. The family will plan a reception either in Kolkata or Delhi depending on when the players are available," said Ahmed.
Hasin is an ex-model, informed Ahmed. "Now she will be a housewife and support Shami in his playing career. That's what we want as parents," he added. Shami's phone was busy throughout Saturday and he was not available for reactions. He is expected to be back to cricket after June 13 when his only sister gets married. "Shami is the middle one of my three sons. He has done well in cricket and as a dad what else can we want?" said Ahmed. Playing for Delhi Daredevils this season, Shami did not set the IPL on fire but his father is not worried about his son's bowling form. "So many world-class bowlers were treated with disdain. I don't think Shami's performance was all that bad when the entire team failed," said Ahmed.
Shami has been rested for the three ODIs versus Bangladesh later this month. He will be part of the attack on the long tour of England starting July. Known for his reverse swing, Shami has played six Tests so far, bagging 27 wickets with a best of 5/47 against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in November 2013. "Playing for India is very important for Shami. He has done well on the tours of South Africa and New Zealand and should do well in England too," said Ahmed. Lady Luck should also bless the Bengal seamer, who has also played 29 ODIs for India, taking 50 wickets with best figures of 4 for 50 against New Zealand in Napier in January this year.

Govt issues notice to Kejriwal |
Govt issues notice to Kejriwal, asks for Rs 85,000 per month rent
Delhi government has issued a notice to AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal asking him to pay a rent of Rs 85,000 per month for the flat in which he had been staying in for over a month even after resigning from the chief minister's post. Kejriwal had sought an extension to stay in the C-II/23 house at Tilak Lane in central Delhi till his daughter's examinations in May. The notice was issued by the special secretary of Public Works Department on Monday. When asked, an AAP spokesperson said Kejriwal will pay the rent.
As per the notice, Kejriwal has been asked to pay Rs 85, 000 per month as rent from March 1, that is 15 days after he resigned from the chief minister's post on February 14. Sources said the former chief minister has been asked to respond to the notice within a week. Earlier this month, PWD had sent a letter to Kejriwal asking him to vacate the house as he had already crossed the 15-day deadline for staying in the official accommodation.
As per norms, a Delhi government minister can stay a maximum of 15 days in his official residence after demitting office without paying market rent. Kejriwal in return had sought an extension to stay in the house till his daughter's examinations got over in May.
According to sources, the notice was issued to Kejriwal after taking the Lt Governor's approval. The PWD sent the letter to Kejriwal after the urban development ministry had asked the Delhi government to return the flat which had been allotted to Kejriwal as chief minister.

Bengali Actress Nusrat Jahan Survived Only On Five Biscuits |
She wanted to have luchi-aloor dom for breakfast but survived only on five biscuits. The reason behind actress Nusrat's loss of appetite was the first day of shoot of Rhitobrata Bhattacharya's Sandhya Namar Aage, for which she had a stomach full of butterflies.
"This is my first offbeat film where the audience will get to see me without my usual dolled-up look. Thanks to Soumik Haldar (DoP) for making me look beautiful sans make-up! That apart, all of my scenes require me to act. So, I hope that I live up to the director's expectations," the actress shared, adding, "On Monday morning we shot a scene where Rusha Chatterjee (her character) comes to a hotel to meet Prattyush Aloke Bhattacharya (essayed by Rahul Bose), who plays a sleuth in the film. Rusha, who is an NRI, comes to India to find out who murdered her parents. I also had a shot with Rhitoda who plays a reporter in the film. We had a lot of fun while shooting."
