* Taare Zameen Par
The perfectionist actor and a kid we hadn't seen before, both looking into the horizon... Unlike most Bollywood kids-in-movies Darsheel did not look precocious. The poster promised it to be a heart-warming story. It was too. Publicity design was by Sukanya Ghosh.
* Life in a Metro
A metropolitan city's fast paced life and many layers to people was depicted well in the poster. With an interesting cast and non-posed posters, the film promised a bite into reality and delivered. Publicity stills were by Bobby Singh and designed by studio Mantra.
* Black Friday
Anurag Kashyap's dramatic movie finally broke the jinx and had a blast of a release. Anticipation levels were high even before one laid eyes on the posters. Once the posters were out - much before the movie - the promise of darkness and truth was all there. Publicity design was by Studio Link.
* Guru
Abhishek Bachchan with a paunch and who would have thought it would draw in the crowds! But given the intense look, the period clothes and very different attitude portrayed in the posters, Guru worked. With stills by CH Balu, Himanshu Nanda, Rahul Nanda and HR Enterprises got us the posters.
* Chak De India
A poster with girls who were not in 'item number' outfits, wielding hockey sticks and no sign of Shah Rukh Khan in a SRK movie. It sure was a first time. The second set of posters with a bearded SRK added to the intrigue and once the movie released, the nation got a new anthem. Fayyaz Badruddin and the Yash Raj Films Design Cell knew how to tease the viewer.
* Bhool Bhulaiyaa
A peculiar, old album picture with a even more peculiar star cast and Akshay Kumar dressed in saffron. It couldn't get more bizarre in a very non-filmi way and the movie worked as well. With stills by Raja Krishnan, the trio of Rahul Nanda, Himanshu Nanda and HR Enterprises pull off another poster. Do notice the difference from Guru.
* Johnny Gaddaar
What would you think if you saw the (presumably) lead character reading a James Hadley Chase novel in what looks like a jail cell? Well, you would want to watch the film, which thankfully was a tight, twisted delight. Publicity designers Marching Ants sure hit the nail on the head.
* Sivaji
What do you need in a poster with one of the biggest superstars the country has seen? Well, the superstar in all his glory and Rajini in all-white and in that all-famous Rajini sneer did mean the movie would be big.
* Om Shanti Om
After shocking the nation with a bearded face and good acting, SRK pulled out the stops with a new, improved body and of course those much-talked of six-packs in OSO. The poster promised a typical Bollywood bonanza and it sure was. After Johnny Gaddaar, publicity designers Marching Ants are getting a hang of 'cool'.
* Namastey London
When you give the audience a promise of 'funjabiness' with Akshay Kumar nonchalantly grinning atop a bike, you know you are going to laugh your insides out. The movie and Akki delivered. With stills by Payal Shah, Himanshu Nanda, Rahul Nanda and HR Enterprises deliver a hatrick.
