Amitabh, Aishwarya and Abhishek — come together for an event?

What happens when the three Bachchans — Amitabh, Aishwarya and Abhishek — come together for an event? Throw in Preity Zinta and Riteish Deshmukh as well and there’s pandemonium! That almost happened on Friday night at a suburban hotel but it was Big B himself, who stopped it from happening. “Let’s conduct this evening in a civil manner,” he requested and immediately, there was a hush in the room. The actors were there to talk about their upcoming world tour and to lend support through it for the cause of global warming. While Abhishek admitted that it was his first world tour, he joked that he has been rehearsing on Aishwarya’s behalf as well (she had been suffering from German measles). Riteish revealed to the audience, “This is my first world tour too. I’m scared!” even as everyone joined in with a laugh. Preity was her vivacious self; she sat between Abhishek and Ash and kept up a steady banter with the couple.

was all praise for the actors and said that they have been wonderful with rehearsals. Not forgetting that the performances abroad were also going to spread awareness about global warming, Nobel Laureate Dr RK Pachauri spoke about how the presence of celebrities actually make people sit up and listen. He presented each of them with a solar lantern and hoped that they will be able to make a difference with their tour.

• TOUR DIARIES: Amitabh recalled the first time he had gone for a tour abroad. “It was a few days after Jaya and I got married. We reached the venue and there were five people in the audience, two of them Jaya’s relatives and three ushers!” he said as everyone burst into laughter.
