Anil files defamation suit against Mukesh Ambani


Ambani has also named 10 people as respondents in the petition, including New York Times editor, publisher and reporter of New York Times) in its petition. Anil Ambani has filed the petition in his personal capacity, sources close to the development said.

When contacted, an Anil Ambani group spokesperson declined to comment.

On June 20, 2008, Anil Ambani’s lawyers have sent a letter addressed to Mukesh Ambani in which the reporter Giridharadas, NYT’s public editor Clark Hoyt and the newspaper’s chairman and publisher Arthur Sulzberger seeking a “clear, unambiguous and unqualified” retraction and apology from Mukesh Ambani.

The younger sibling had alleged that Mukesh Ambani in his interview to NYT has stated that Reliance Group intelligence network, comprising “a network of lobbyists and spies” were overseen by his brother (Anil Ambani) before their split and had since been expunged from his tranche of the company.
Anil Ambani has filed a defamation suit against his elder sibling and industrialist Mukesh Ambani in the Mumbai High Court seeking damages after the latter’s comments were published in New York Times (NYT). However, the petition is yet to admitted by the High Court.
