Pandit Bhimsen Joshi to get Bharat Ratna
Renowned Indian classical vocalist Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, 88, will be honoured with the highest Indian civilian award -Bharat Ratna.
Joshi, who is associated with Kirana gharana, was born in the Gadag district of Karnataka.
He was honoured with Padma Vibhushan in 1999 for his contribution to Indian classical music. He was also awarded with Padma Bhushan in 1985 and was given the Padma Shri in 1972.
In 2005, Karnataka government honoured him with the Karnataka samman.
