‘Golden Baba’: Sadhu wears jewellery worth Rs 3 cr, |
They call him the Golden Baba -- he wears jewellery worth more than Rs 3 crore. And on Saturday, the ascetic from the famous Juna Akhada of Haridwar called on Agra’s top police officer, seeking security. The ascetic had gone to Ujjain’s most talked of Simhastha Kumbh. On his way back to Bareilly he spoke to Agra’s SSP Dr Preetinder Singh, seeking security from the top cop. Adhering to the baba’s request, the police provided him security till Agra. Baba was further advised to seek help from higher authorities in case he wanted security beyond Agra, the cop added.
The baba and his cavalcade created quite a stir when they drove into the Agra collectorate. People swarmed him to take selfies. Even complainants coming into the office joined the queue of eager fans waiting to get clicked with the baba, who had chunky chains around his neck and thick bracelets on both his arms .An ascetic and the yellow metal make for an odd combination. A sadhu is expected to shun the pulls of the material world, and live an austere life in search of God.“For me, the gold is devta (deity). I am at peace when I wear it so I have been wearing it since 1972,” he said.

Indian Pacer Mohammed Shami Married His Model Girlfriend Haseen Jahan |
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami married his model girlfriend Haseen Jahan at a private ceremony in Moradabad on 6 June, 2014.
Mohammed Shami weds Kolkata Girl, Dad Says Lady Luck Will Smile in England
Mohammed Shami has married his model girl-friend Hasin Jahan at a private ceremony in Moradabad on Friday. The 24-year-old Shami, who lives in Kolkata and plays Ranji Trophy for Bengal, met Hasin at an Indian Premier League event a couple of years ago. Like many international sportspersons, Shami too took a liking for models. Speaking to sports.ndtv.com, Shami's father Tauseef Ahmed said the Nikkah was at 4 pm and the reception was at 7 in the evening. It was a family affair and some close friends were invited. "We didn't invite Shami's Indian teammates as we were not sure about their schedule. The family will plan a reception either in Kolkata or Delhi depending on when the players are available," said Ahmed.
Hasin is an ex-model, informed Ahmed. "Now she will be a housewife and support Shami in his playing career. That's what we want as parents," he added. Shami's phone was busy throughout Saturday and he was not available for reactions. He is expected to be back to cricket after June 13 when his only sister gets married. "Shami is the middle one of my three sons. He has done well in cricket and as a dad what else can we want?" said Ahmed. Playing for Delhi Daredevils this season, Shami did not set the IPL on fire but his father is not worried about his son's bowling form. "So many world-class bowlers were treated with disdain. I don't think Shami's performance was all that bad when the entire team failed," said Ahmed.
Shami has been rested for the three ODIs versus Bangladesh later this month. He will be part of the attack on the long tour of England starting July. Known for his reverse swing, Shami has played six Tests so far, bagging 27 wickets with a best of 5/47 against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in November 2013. "Playing for India is very important for Shami. He has done well on the tours of South Africa and New Zealand and should do well in England too," said Ahmed. Lady Luck should also bless the Bengal seamer, who has also played 29 ODIs for India, taking 50 wickets with best figures of 4 for 50 against New Zealand in Napier in January this year.

Blogger Sara Shantelle Lim Birthday Sponsored $40,000 |
Blogger called 'shameless' for throwing sponsored $40,000 birthday bash
Little-known blogger claims to have $40,000 sponsorship for birthday, but netizens slam her for holding extravagant bash. She says:
Local lifestyle blogger Sara Shantelle Lim is throwing a sponsored $40,000 bash to celebrate her 27th birthday on Friday night. But the entrepreneur's extravagant bash has drawn flak from netizens, with many calling her "a freeloader" and slamming her for "showing off" and being "shameless". In her press release about her "candylicious neon birthday bash 2014", Miss Lim named all her sponsors and listed the freebies she's getting from them. But she displeased one sponsor, socialite Kim Lim, the daughter of local billionaire tycoon Peter Lim, by calling her a "good friend". Miss Kim Lim, who is sponsoring $1,500 worth of beer for the party, said yesterday that she and Miss Lim are "not good friends, only acquaintances".

Miss America, Nina Davuluri, has her roots in Vijayawada |
![]() | |
The 24-year-old Miss New York is the first contestant of Indian origin to become Miss America |
Soon after the news of her being crowned broke early in the morning, the girl students at Montessori Mahila Kalasala celebrated her success. "I am not surprised. She is a dedicated person and I was always confident that she would go places," Koteswaramma said. The proud grandmother's residence at Moghalrajapuram wore a festive look on Monday morning as it was packed with visitors and family friends who had come to congratulate Nina's grandmother.
Nina grew up in a family of doctors. Apart from her parents, her maternal aunt and uncle are also doctors and so is her elder sister Meena, who is studying medicine in the US. Her paternal uncles are also doctors in the US. "In fact, Nina also wanted to pursue medicine and wanted to become a cardiologist. However, she has ended up winning the Miss America title," Koteswaramma said. According to her, Nina is a fan of Telugu films and Telugu culture and is trained in Kuchipudi and Bharatha Natyam.
Nina's father Koteswara Chowdary shifted to the US soon after his marriage in 1981 and went on to become a gynaecologist. Nina's mother Sheila Ranjani is continuing on the board of Montessori Kalasala as vice-president and visits the city at least once in two years. Nina herself came down to the city in 2007, soon after becoming first runners-up in Miss America's Miss Teen contest. However, except for Koteswaramma's close family circle, a very few in the city had heard of Nina till she was crowned Miss America. Recalling how her granddaughter struggled before achieving this success, Koteswaramma said Nina had to overcome two obstacles - asthma and obesity. "I can only say that Nina will not stop here," she said.
Nina was born at Syracuse in US but the family moved to Oklahoma when she was four and from there to Michigan in 2000. Nina's family is now residing in Fayetteville, where her father Koteswara Chowdary is a gynaecologist at St Joseph's Hospital. Nina is a graduate of brain behaviour and cognitive science from Michigan University. Earlier, a Vijayawada girl, Gadde Sindhoora had won the 'Femina Miss India' title and reached the Miss World semi-finals in 2005.

Aishwarya Rai at Cannes 2013 Photos |

Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked the red carpet for AMFAR-The Ultimate Gold Collection, wearing an exquisite gold saree designed by Tarun Tahiliani. Gold accessories, nude makeup and an updo completed her look. We thought Ash's last appearance at Cannes would be impactful, but this over-the-top look leaves much to be desired. Actress Aishwarya Rai arrived at the screening of Behind the Candelabra in a teal gown with her hair worn up at the 66th international film festival, in Cannes. Take a look at Aishwarya's red carpet choices at Cannes.

The actress went traditional in Sabyasachi's black saree for the evening gala that celebrated 100 years of Indian cinema.
Aishwarya teamed hair accessory and danglers with the gold embroidered saree as she made her way to the screening of Bollywood anthology film 'Bombay Talkies'. Aishwarya Rai looked elegant as she made her much awaited entry to the Cannes Film Festival's red carpet in a black sequined Elie Saab gown. The 39-year-old Bollywood diva, who is on her eleventh visit to the festival, completed her look with open hair and minimal jewellery. Aishwarya, who has travelled with her 18-month-old daughter Aardhya at the festival, kept the tot away from the prying cameras by making a lone entry at the premiere of Carey Mulligan-Justin Timberlake starrer film 'Inside Llewyn Davis'. This will be Aishwarya Rai's 12th time on the red carpet at the French Riviera. She has become a fixture on the French Riviera over the years and Bollywood beauty Aishwarya does not disappoint in this fitted white shirt and black mermaid-style skirt. The former Miss World, has been a permanent Cannes attendee for many years, since her movie, Devdas screened at the Festival in 2002. Last year Aishwarya launched the film “Heroine” at Cannes but later stepped down from the project due to pregnancy. Kareena Kapoor has replaced her in the film. Aishwarya who completed a decade of representing cosmetics giant L'Oreal at the prestigious film festival last year, said that she was "happy" to have such beautiful company. Last year, the 39-year-old Bollywood actress looked stunning in an Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla ensemble.
She wore a gold embroidered sari and co-ordinating tailored jacket with Mandarin collar. She found international fame in the Hollywood film Bride and Prejudice, and Julia Roberts dubbed her as the world's most beautiful woman. But an unfortunate recent photograph that captured her with a double chin sparked a flurry of cruel criticism, with some even suggesting that she has a 'duty' to her fans to regain her pre-pregnancy figure. Aishwarya is the guest of honour at an event celebrating 100 years of Indian cinema. Last year, the actress received the second highest French civilian award "Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters" for her contribution to cinema and promoting Indo-French cooperation.

Tribute to Tiger: Top 5 Pataudi Moments
He undoubtedly was one of the most charismatic cricketers India has ever produced. It was much before Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni donned the blue jersey that India learnt how to fight in tough conditions and emerge victorious. And it was all taught by Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, the blue-blooded India captain. Here we pay our tribute to the legend and present Top Tiger moments.
An accident that could not deter the champion
In 1961, at an age of 20, a car accident at Hove permanently damaged vision in his right eye. "It took me a long time to realize I had virtually lost the use of one eye, but even then, never for an instant did I consider I might not be able to play cricket again," Pataudi had said. However, it was said to an end of his career. But three of four weeks after his operation, Pataudi was soon at the nets learning to play cricket with one eye.
"My batting needed sorting out. For long hours George Cod, the Sussex coach, bowled to me in the net while I worked out what I could still do and what I could not. At first I couldn't pick the length of the bowling at all. Then I reached a sort of compromise, but I suppose it took five years before I could claim to be completely on terms with my handicap," Pataudi had said in his autobiography Tiger's tale.
Youngest India captain at 21
Less than a year after his accident, Tiger was named India's captain after Nari Contractor was out of a game due to a head injury he sustained in the West Indies. He held the record of being the youngest captain till Zimbabwe's Tatenda Taibu took it from him in 2004. But he remained India's youngest captain.
First captain to win overseas Test series
It was under his captaincy that India won their first ever overseas Test series. During India's tour to New Zealand in 1968, Pataudi led the team to a 3-1 win. India won the first Test at Dunedin and the hosts leveled it at Christchurch. India bounced back in to the series and clinched the next two Tests at Wellington and Auckland. Pataudi made 221 runs in the series. "Tiger gambled like a crazy punter. His daredevil tactics paid off. The crowd worshipped him. Tiger got the best out of everybody, and we won," wrote legendary off-spinner Erapalli Prasanna in his biography.
First ever Cricket-Bollywood love story
It was the first love story that brought cricket and films closer to each other. This romance between a batsman and a beauty was nothing lesser than a fairytale. They broke the barriers of religion, class and other social norms to script the "happily-ever-after" story. Nawab Pataudi later said he had to bat on for four long years to finally marry Sharmila. It is also said that he gifted a refrigerator to woo her. Sharmila, on her part, revealed she "was attracted to Tiger for his sense of humour" and said "for us, the world ended and began with each other".
His father played for both England and India
Coming from a royal family, Mansur became the ninth Nawab of Pataudi at an early age as his father Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi died on his 11th birthday in 1952. Pataudi Sr. was one the very few cricketers who played for India and England. Mansur's elevation as captain of the Indian cricket team meant it was a father-son feat without a parallel.
