Bollywood Heads Down south For Stories

The trend of remaking south Indian super hit films in Bollywood is fast catching up. Alayi Payuthe became Saathiya. Ayitha Ezhuthu became Yuva. Boeing Boeing became Garam Masala and so on and so forth. The fact that these remakes not only worked but did extremely well at the box-office is perhaps why filmmakers are latching on to this trend. The latest to join this trend are the Khans.

Shah Rukh Khan’s much awaited film Billoo Barber is a remake of the Malayalam superhit film, Katha Parayumbol. The film will be directed by Priyadarshan and will have Irrfan Khan playing the title role. As for the female lead, Priyan initially had Tabu in mind. However, when she refused the film, it went to Ayesha Takia, then Kareena Kapoor and finally Lara Dutta was chosen to play the heroine. The film is based on the Krishna-Sudama story and the other lead in the film is SRK.

Even Aamir Khan’s Ghajini is a remake of a film by the same name. The film has Aamir, Jiah Khan and Asin playing pivotal roles. Aamir is so thrilled about this project that he has put his in a lot of effort in giving a different look to the film. With SRK and Aamir all set in making remakes, how far could Salman Khan be? He will soon be seen in the south Indian dancing sensation, Prabhu Deva’s directorial venture titled Wanted Dead Or Alive. It’s a remake of the Tamil blockbuster Pokiri and Sallu plays a cop in the film. Others in the film are Ayesh Takia, Om Puri and Mahesh Manjrekar. Looks like, down south is the way to go for Bollywood after taking a break from Hollywood.
