Beyonce made history at the Grammys last night scooping six trophies - the most ever won by a woman in one night at the awards bash.
The RnB diva collected song of the year for Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It) but was beaten to the album of the year title by Taylor Swift.
Beyonce won her sixth and final gong with best female pop vocal for her soaring ballad Halo, making her the most decorated woman in one night in the 52-year history of the awards show.
"Thank you so much... this has been such an amazing night for me and I'd love to thank the Grammys," said Beyonce, who was nominated for 10 awards.
"I'd like to thank my family including my husband, I love you," she added, referring to rapper Jay-Z.
Country star Swift picked up four prizes including the coveted album of the year for Fearless.
Accepting her award, she said: "Oh wow! Thank you so much. I just hope that you know how much this means to me ... that we get to take this back to Nashville."
The Kings of Leon were one of the only other acts able to put a dent in the Beyonce armour, when their Use Somebody trumped her Halo to win record of the year, their third gong of the night.
"I'm not going to lie, we're all a little drunk. But we're happy drunks," said lead singer Caleb Followill.
The Black Eyed Peas and Jay-Z also picked up three trophies, while Lady GaGa and Eminem won two.
Lady Gaga delivered an early show-stopper with an eye-popping performance with Sir Elton John. She kicked off the night with a sequinned green leotard with massive shoulders as she sang her Grammy-nominated hit Poker Face amid an elaborate stage that included dramatic choreography and pyrotechnics.
Moments later, she scaled things down a bit - as much as Lady Gaga can -and brought out Elton as they melded her song Speechless and his classic Your Song together.
Michael Jackson's children Paris, 12, and Prince, 11, accepted a lifetime achievement award on behalf of the late King of Pop.
Paris said: "Daddy was going to perform this year. He couldn't perform last year. Thank you and we love you daddy."
The pair took to the stage after a 3D tribute featuring Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Celine Dion, Smokey Robinson and Usher singing along to a recording of Jackson's Earth Song.
