THE BRITNEY DISEASE LEAVES NO SURVIVORS

It's Britney mania taken to a whole new level! Have a look at this nice compilation put together by one of my favorite gossip sites out there, and you'll see what I mean. If media attention was what Britney was after, then she sure got what she asked for – and then some. Saying that she is the talk of the day is a grave understatement, and frankly, I feel pretty much powerless when confronted with this avalanche of media attention all directed at the popwreck. We are promised first-hand stories about everything from what her kids saw during the already famous police stand-off, to the truth about her mental illness, to new, extra-spicy details of that night and a shower of predictions about what will happen next – needless to say, something bad. I bet you anything that wherever she is right now, Britney is having a laugh and toasting a frappuccino to all the news editors who made her America's ultimate tragic heroine.

The fact is, Britney better be enjoying that frap, since it seems that her days on the loose are numbered. In addition to all the ongoing drama, gossip site TMZ promises us more of the same. It's the logical thing to do now – since we're all so focused on the popwreck and her exploits, it's natural to crave more. Britney is just like any other addiction, right? The fact is, we are told that Brit's family is taking a break from looking after her pregnant sister and planning an intervention to give Britney the mental help they say she needs. What that means is that she may be receiving that treatment whether she likes it or not – and may even end up being committed to a mental hospital – against her will, of course. But that would certainly be the ultimate solution, and they are said to be considering a number of other possible ways of making Brit Brit see sense. I personally feel they're fighting a losing battle but hey, who am I to say?

This in turn may prove to be the reason for which Brit reportedly packed her photographer friend Adnan into a private jet and is said to be en route to new York. Taking the crazy all across the country! Apparently Brit got on board the plane with Adnan and another male companion. Oh, boy, I sure hope they're not having sex on board. Can you imagine a Britney sex tape called "Plane Threesome – Britney Gets Screwed" or something like that! I bet she's quite easy too fool, though – just tell her they're shooting a remake for her "Toxic" video and she'll buy it. OK, that was not funny. I sure hope a "Britney hijacks plane' drama isn't on the way. The more I think about it, the dizzier I become. Time to stop, I think.

2007 top 10 worst-dressed list - Celebrities

Posh and Amy Winehouse named as the worst-dressed celebrities of 2007

She crossed the Atlantic to hit the big time in fashion, but today Spice Girl Victoria Beckham suffered a Hollywood flop when a US style guru named her the worst-dressed celebrity of 2007, with Amy Winehouse close behind in second place.

"In one skinny-mini monstrosity after another, pouty 'Posh' can really wreck-em," said style guru Richard Blackwell in his annual list of fashion fiascos among music, movie and television stars.

With husband and soccer star David Beckham, she moved to Los Angeles last year amid huge media fanfare. Among the top items on Posh's "to do" list was launching herself as a style setter. And another Briton, troubled singer Amy Winehouse, came runner-up in second. "Exploding beehives above, tacky polka-dots below," Blackwell said.

Just behind was former child star Mary-Kate Olsen whose diminutive frame and floppy fashion "is hard to explain," said Blackwell. "She resembles a tattered toothpick trapped in a hurricane," he said.

Blackwell has issued his "Worst-Dressed" list for 48 years, and for just as long it has been widely watched and talked about among fashion followers. He began his career in the 1950s, had his own clothing line for 35 years and designed for older stars Jayne Mansfield, Peggy Lee and Jane Russell.

He said this past year stands out as one of the "most disastrous fashion years in recent memory."
However, he spared Britney Spears from the list. "I felt that it was inappropriate at this time to make comment, when her personal life is in such upheaval. I hope 2008 is a better year for her," Blackwell said:

Pop stars Fergie and Kelly Clarkson as No. 4 and No. 5 in the worst-dressed rankings.
But he added: "Let it be said, however, that my criticisms are based purely on their fashion flaws - I'm sure they're all wonderful people beneath the deluge of dreck they drape themselves in."
He also released a Fabulous Fashion Independents list although they were not ranked. He included Reese Witherspoon, Jemima Khan, Beyonce, Angelina Jolie, Helen Mirren, Nicole Kidman, Katie Holmes, Kate Middleton, Madonna and Cate Blanchett.
He even mentioned Queen Elizabeth who, Blackwell said, "managed to update her Stonehenge of Style image".Source

The 2007 top 10 worst-dressed list is as follows:
1. Victoria Beckham
2. Amy Winehouse
3. Mary Kate Olsen
4. Fergie
5. Kelly Clarkson
6. Eva Green
7. Avril Lavigne
8. Jessica Simpson
9. Lindsay Lohan
10. Alison Arngrim

Hillary tears win New Hampshire

I’M BACK!

Pollsters and political pundits in America skipped breakfast on Wednesday morning; they had so much egg on their face.

Defying all pre-poll projections, Hillary Clinton stormed to a dramatic win in the New Hampshire primary, stalling rival Barack Obama’s energetic drive towards the Democratic nomination. On the Republican side too, there was an electoral rebirth. John McCain, also written off by many analysts after a feeble start to his campaign last year, roared into contention beating a host of rivals, principally Mitt Romney, to make it an another open race.

But it was Hillary’s shock win that left the press and the pundits flabbergasted. Every pre-election poll had put Obama at least ten points ahead. So what happened?

Here’s what: New Hampshire’s motto is Live Free or Die, and the people here are considered famously and fiercely independent. The state has some 45,000 independent voters and there were indications that many of them had not made up their minds even a day before the election. Pollsters ignored this constituency.

It turns out that they pulled their weight and punished pollsters for projecting an Obama win. Hillary Clinton’s margin of victory was only around 6,000 and many voters are said to have decided in her favour in the last-minute after the press simply wrote her off.

Then there is the Lachrymose Theory. Pre-election polls showed Obama had a 3 per cent advantage among women voters. But exit polls on Tuesday showed that it was Clinton who ended up with a 13 percentage plus female vote, indication that her tears or near tears may have done the trick. Some women did admit to being swayed by Hillary’s emotional moment. Whatever the case, Clinton appeared vastly relieved. “I come tonight with a very, very full heart, and I want especially to thank New Hampshire,’’ she told cheering supporters who gave oxygen to her campaign. “Over the last week, I listened to you, and in the process I found my own voice.’’ It is still a long, long way for the nominations

Pollsters and media pundits momentarily lost their voice, wondering where they went wrong as Democratic presidential aspirant Hillary Clinton made a dramatic comeback at New Hampshire. “This has happened in election after election but we never seem to learn,’’ lamented CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Even the normally cautious Bob Woodward confessed that he had been writing a premature Clinton political obituary titled “Dynastic fatigue.’’

The one thing that was evident in the final hours of the Clinton campaign in New Hampshire and her victory speech was the subtle change in tactic. They switched from attacking Obama’s inexperience to attacking his modest record; they embraced his mantra of change that is resonating among the youth.

Winners from both parties spoke of comebacks. “My friends, you know I’m past the age when I can claim the noun kid, no matter what adjective precedes it. But tonight, we sure showed them what a comeback looks like,’’ Mc-Cain told his Republican supporters.

Hillary also played on the comeback word which her husband famously earned after being routed in Iowa and coming second in New Hampshire and still getting to the White House in 1992. “Now together, let’s give America the kind of comeback that New Hampshire has just given me,’’ she told her supporters.

But there is still a long, long way to go to the party nomination, much less the White House. The party faithful who voted in Iowa and New Hampshire constitute less than one per cent of the American electorate; the vast majority has not spoken yet. With this turnaround however, all talk of Hillary’s exit has gone out of the window. Instead, she is expected to buttress her staff and crank up her fund-raising machinery from Wednesday.

The party caravans will move to South Carolina for the next big prize later this month with the race in both parties wide open. An estimated 50 per cent of the state’s Democratic voters are Black, and there is expected to be a serious three-way fight here between Clinton, Obama, and John Edwards, who comes from neighbouring North Carolina.

On the Republican side, Mike Huckabee and Fred Thompson, both southerners, are expected to make a fist of it while McCain preserves his energy and dollars for his stomping grounds in the South-west. None of these states will decide the nominations. It will all boil down to Super Tuesday on February 5 when 22 states hold primaries in one shot.
