Will Smith's School Insists It's Not Scientologist |
Will Smith 's soon-to-open private school is not a Scientology facility, as some reports have suggested, the academy's director said.
Smith and his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, have founded the New Village Academy, scheduled to open in September.
The school will use instructional methods developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard called study technology. And a few teachers belong to the church.
But the couple say they are not Scientologists, and the academy's director insists the facility has no religious affiliation.
"We are a secular school, and just like all nonreligious independent schools, faculty and staff do not promote their own religions at school or pass on the beliefs of their particular faith to children," New Village Academy director Jacqueline Olivier told the Los Angeles Times.
Oliver said some of the school's staffers are Scientologists, Muslim, Christian or Jewish.
In addition to reading and math, the school offers classes on yoga, robotics and etiquette.

Trouble brewing in Kareena's relationship? |
Gossip-mongers say that it is only a matter of weeks before the Saif Ali- Kareena romance ends. There already were plenty of stories that the freedom-loving actress wasn't happy with the way Saif stifles her.
Rumors claimed that Kareena Kapoor was annoyed with the constant "Where are you" calls from Saif all the time. But it looked as if the conflict was resolved because both began making appearances together in public again.
But it came as a surprise when Saif turned up at the performance venue in London where Kareena was supposed to make an onstage dance appearance with the likes of Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and others. Saif probably began to miss her a lot and took a flight to London to meet her.
In order to avoid media attention, he stayed at the backstage.
Though the media projected it as a surprise meet, some claim that she wasn't all that happy with the invasion on her free time.

Britney Granted Overnights With Her Boys |
Britney Spears has made a subtle change for the better—and, it follows, so too have her custody rights.
This morning's court session, attended by both Spears and Kevin Federline, resulted in "a change of visitation status" for the new aunt, Los Angeles Superior Court spokesman Allan Parachini told reporters at a brief posthearing press conference.
While Parachini wasn't spilling the beans, sources told E! News that Court Commissioner Scott Gordon granted Spears overnight visits with her sons, beginning as soon as this weekend.
The modification has been a long time coming for the 26-year-old singer, whose attorneys have been hammering out a new custody agreement with Federline legal team for a while. The terms were finally agreed upon and approved by the court today.
"Both sides have been very cooperative the past couple of weeks," said Parachini.
The boys—2-year-old Sean Preston and 21-month-old Jayden James—are tentatively scheduled to spend Saturday night with Spears. Federline, 30, retains primary custody of the youngsters.
The outcome seemed to sit well with both parties.
When leaving the courtroom, Spears told reporters she was happy with today's decision, and Federline made his way through the media scrum with a smile on his face.
Parachini also verified that the singer's on-off attorney Laura Wasser was in fact back on Team Spears, and that the entertainer's parenting coach made comments.
A status conference on the terms of the duo's visitation is scheduled to take place July 15. A trial date for the ongoing custody battle is still scheduled for August.

Asin Is Marching Towards Bollywood |
‘I HOPE I REMAIN ‘SINLESS’ IN MUMBAI'
After giving hits in Tamil and Tollywood, Asin is marching towards Bollywood to make a mark there. In a bare-all interview she talks about the industry, its ways and making Ghajiniin Tamil, Telugu and now Hindi.Asin Thottumkal, in the manner of Hema Malini, Rekha and Sridevi, is set to storm Hindi films with Ghajini opposite Aamir Khan after conquering Telugu and Tamil cinema. Ask her if she is set to become next big Bollywood’s diva from the South, and the actress giggles in embarrassment, “I’m a long way from getting anywhere near Hema, Rekha and Sridevi. But I feel hugely welcome in Mumbai. I don’t know why filmmakers are showing so much interest in me.”
Spirited, spunky and beautiful, Asin (pronounced Ah-sin) shows a sense of humour when she explains her name: “Asin is coined from Sanskrit and English. It means ‘sinless’... like ‘Amala’… without blemish. I hope I live up to my name in Mumbai.” For now, Mumbai is her home. “But only because my immediate commitments are in Mumbai,” she clarifies. “I’m the brand ambassador for six multi-national companies and the ads need to be shot in Mumbai. Now there are Hindi films too.”
Fortunately, Asin speaks Hindi without that Southern twang that is even now so pronounced in Hema. “I’ve never used a dubbing artiste for any of my films, not even for the Hindi ads, and I’m speaking in my own voice in my first Hindi film Ghajini,” she claims. “In these days of globalisation, I don’t think language is a barrier. I’m interested in films in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and any other language as long as the projects are exciting.”
She’s aware her shift to Mumbai has given rise to rumours that she’s giving up on South Indian cinema. “That’s untrue,” says Asin defensively. “Whatever I’m today is because of Tamil and Telugu cinema. Why am I expected to choose between Mumbai and the South?”

Shekar Suman's Son Bana Star! |
What's with Shekhar Suman's son Adhyayan Suman? While his father failed to make his mark in the big screen, the Jr Shekhar made his debut last week with Haal-e-Dil. And more than his movie, a leading actress made this interesting observation to us.
In her own words "I wonder why, Shekhar Suman's son decided to play second fiddle to a newcomer that too in his debut film. And you should have seen him, dressed in a white suit, he was looking like a Raj Kumar, throwing major attitude and bossing someone who looked like his girlfriend."
Chalo atleast he has picked up his starry tricks early in his life!

Bollywood Actor Amitabh Bachchan Interview |
1. Your blog has been covered, reviewed and written about extensively. Whatever you write in the blog is becoming “news” in print and on TV channels. Do you think, like Aamir Khan says, you do not need to talk to the press separately anymore?
ANS: I am surprised and intrigued by your observation. I have been travelling out of the country for some time and am unaware of print and TV channel reviews. But its interesting to know from you on the interest on my blog. I have not read or heard Aamir’s remark, but as you can observe, by responding to your questionnaire I have not paid heed to it !
2. Blogging for most is a very personal medium but Indian film actors have used it as a public medium to clarify his or her stands. What has your experience been like? Is it close to writing a diary or is it more a public rejoinder to accusations?
ANS: I have yet to find a definition for the blog or a blog or just blog. It is an intriguing word and I doubt if it would matter what it meant to those that use it. There are no rules for it, so I would imagine it is a medium where an individual has the opportunity to express himself and through that to others as well. If the process is being looked upon as a document of personal thoughts or as a vehicle for clarification and rejoinder so be it. I think for celebrities or those in the public sphere who sometimes desire a method for response this could be the answer.
3. Your usage of English and your writing style are truly praiseworthy. Have you ever thought of writing fiction or memoirs in the language?
ANS: My language and its usage is very pedantic and not worthy of praise at all. You embarrass me by this observation and no I have not thought of writing fiction or my memoirs.
4. Has the response to your posts brought to light anything new about your fans? What is your response to their response to your posts?
ANS: Yes it has. It has brought to light that they have a deeper perception of our profession and our character than we imagine. That they are extremely intelligent and conscious of their bearings. That their affection and love is spontaneous and exuberant and the reason for our existence. That their criticism and abuse at times needs careful consideration, for they are able to see and observe what we may not have and that it is the most joyful experience to connect with them first hand.
5. You son Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya have become global faces and have been the only movie stars from India on the Cannes red carpet. How does that make you feel?
ANS: I am not so sure of that. We are all here on a private visit. Aishwarya is brand ambassador for L’Oreal which is one of the sponsors for the Cannes Film Festival, so her participation in the festival activities is part of her contractual obligations. The rest of the family is here to be with her in her moment. The family has been spread all over different parts of the world for some time due to our schedules and we decided to meet up here. Aishwarya is a popular face in France and it is a very proud moment for all of us to witness the respect and honour that is accorded to her.
6. You have poured your heart out in your blog about things that have bothered you, about certain people’s actions and words. If you didn’t have the blogging medium would you have been able to express your hurt in some way?
ANS: I cannot say. It is quite possible that I may have kept that inside of me and allowed it to dissolve or fester. But now that there is a viable medium I am happy to be able to express myself.
7. Would have life been any different had things like blogging been around 20-30 years back because with you boycotting the media at that time none of your fans could hear your viewpoints on anything?
ANS: That is an interesting and valuable observation. The media boycotting me and vice versa did erase the opportunity of any documentation or record of events that may have happened in my professional career. I cannot say whether that held any importance at all. Media is the only credible source of any record for posterity other than official documentation by recognised sources. I do not think that media felt it necessary to keep on record what went on in my film or personal life, during the time of the ban. And quite frankly they were not wrong. But I would like to believe that fans love and appreciate your work on film and so long as that was in order, other aspects did not matter. So thank god for the films and their presence, for they kept me alive so to say in the minds of the people.
8. Has there been any pressure on you to use your new love for blogging commercially to promote your films?
ANS: No there hasn’t. But I talk about my films and my roles and my daily activities connected with them and at times putting up photographs and other material. If that helps in the promotion of the film then good.
9. What are the plans with your upcoming website? What features are you planning to include in it?
ANS: Plans are under construction for the website and it should be up shortly. It will have the presence of all members of the family, most particularly my father and his prolific work. I believe it would also invite comment from those not in the family as well, if we feel and consider it to be of value. It shall be a gradual process and we would love for any tips or suggestions on it.
10. Finally, Sarkar Raj is round the corner. How was it shooting with the family? Having shot for the film and perhaps seen it, do you think it can live up to the expectations from a Sarkar sequel?
ANS: Yes Sarkar Raj is due on the 6th of June and the experience has been wonderful. All three of us in front of the camera at the same time has been joyful and exciting. I will be seeing the final copy in a few days so I cannot comment on it yet, but yes we always expect the best to happen with all our products and Sarkar Raj is no exception.

Jamie Lynn Spears Gives Birth To A Girl |
Jamie Lynn Spears gave birth to a baby girl Thursday morning at a south Mississippi hospital, according to a friend of the Spears family. The friend, who asked not to be identified because the family had not yet announced the baby's birth, told The Associated Press that the baby was named Maddie Briann and weighed 7 pounds, 11 ounces.
The 17-year-old Jamie Lynn was the star of Nickelodeon's "Zoey 101," a sitcom about prep school friends, and is the younger sister of pop star Britney Spears. The Spears family announced in December that Jamie Lynn was pregnant. The father is Casey Aldridge, a pipe-layer from Liberty, Miss. The couple is not married but announced an engagement several months ago.
Ellen Brannan, spokeswoman for Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, in McComb, would not give out any details. "We understand everybody's interested, but we don't give out information on anyone. Everyone's entitled to their privacy," she said.
The younger Spears lives near Liberty with Aldridge, 19, and has been seen around the small south Mississippi town often as her pregnancy became more apparent. Her family owns a home across the state line in Kentwood, La.
Spears announced her pregnancy through an article in OK! Magazine and was expected to receive a large payday for exclusive pictures of the newborn.
Nickelodeon issued a statement about the birth on Thursday, saying, "We wish her and her family well." Nickelodeon spokeswoman Marianne Romano said that filming of the fourth and final season of "Zoey 101" was completed last summer before Spears became pregnant.
Spears portrayed Zoey Brooks, a student at Pacific Coast Academy, a campus that had been an exclusive all-boys boarding school until Zoey and a handful of other girls arrived. At the end of the series, Zoey gets the boy — longtime crush Chase (Sean Flynn).
