Spears and Federline settle custody case |
Britney Spears and Kevin Federline finalized their child-custody settlement Friday, including a $5,000-per-month increase in child support for the pop singer’s ex-husband.
An attorney for Federline delivered the terms of two separate agreements to Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott M. Gordon, who gave his approval late Friday afternoon.

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears and Kevin Federline finalized their child-custody settlement Friday, including a $5,000-per-month increase in child support for the pop singer’s ex-husband.
An attorney for Federline delivered the terms of two separate agreements to Los Angeles Superior Court Commissioner Scott M. Gordon, who gave his approval late Friday afternoon.
The settlement ends a months-long saga between Spears and Federline over custody issues, attorneys fees and the singer’s public meltdown earlier this year. It may not, however, be the final word on the pair’s custody arrangements.
Last week, the parties said they had also come to terms on custody arrangements, granting the 26-year-old pop singer more time with her children, including additional overnight visits. The exact terms of that agreement were sealed by the court.
Spears’ father, James, currently controls his daughter’s financial and personal affairs as a court-appointed conservator. He signed off on the agreement on Spears’ behalf.
A hearing on the conservatorship is scheduled for Thursday.

Imran Khan imitating Aamir Khan Steps |

Aamir in the masti ki paathshaala mood
Mamu Aamir Khan shook a leg here, but no, he wasn’t with his nephew Imran. On the contrary, imitating his steps on the podium was child actor Darsheel Safary. The two were at Darsheel’s school, along with music mogul Bhushan Kumar, musician trio Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani and actress Tisca Chopra, all part of Aamir’s movie starring Darsheel.
The DVD of the film was brought out amidst fun and dance, when Aamir and Darsheel did a li’l jig, but at the end of it all, there was a serious message too — Aamir spoke to the children about the perils of piracy and that the same should be curbed. “When we download a movie or music illegally, it is like stealing,” he told the enthusiastic children. Producer Sanjiv Bijli and Kiran Bajaj, Principal of the school, were also present on the occasion.

Mehreen Jabbar is a Pakistani woman filmmaker, director,Interview
‘Cinema has started reviving in Pakistan’
How did you conceive ‘Ramchand Pakistani’?
It’s based on a true story of an eight-year-old Pakistani Hindu boy and his father who cross into India by mistake. What happens to them in an Indian jail forms the core narrative. My father Javed Jabbar is the producer of the film. He has been running an NGO in Thar desert for the past 20 years. The father of the Hindu boy worked as a substitute teacher in one of his schools. During one of the trips he came to know of the incident, met the father and son. He interviewed them, wrote a synopsis and suggested the story to me. I felt it was a very powerful story; so we hired a screenplay writer who worked on the script for a year.
The family is Dalit. Is there a particular reason why?
That’s because in real life they are Dalits. Since the film is based on a true story, we stuck to who they were, their religion and their caste.
How difficult was it raising money for ‘Ramchand Pakistani’?
Raising money anywhere in the world is a huge problem for independent film-makers. In Pakistan, it is more challenging because there are no studios, grants or foundations. My mother Shabnam gave me the initial money. My father approached his friends and i went to mine. We collected money from 19 people. After that we got two Pakistani sponsors: a telephone company and a biscuit company.
You have studied cinema. Did you always want to make films?
I always wanted to make films. I grew in a family involved with the media world. My father made Pakistan’s first and only English language feature film, ‘Beyond the Last Mountain’, in 1976. My parents had an ad agency. I grew up around cameras. But i got out of advertising very fast. From 1993 onwards, i have been making Pakistani television serials and plays. I am based in New York but i do a lot of my work in Karachi.
There are not many women directors in Pakistan film industry. Right?
There are three Lollywood women directors who have made very successful commercial films: Sangeeta, Shamim Ara and Sameena Peerzada. The first two made films in the 1970s. Now they don’t. Last year, barely 15-20 films were made which is nothing in a country of 145-150 million people. Cinema has just started reviving. Most women directors today are in TV doing commercials, plays and music video. Hopefully the next generation of Pakistani film-makers will come from television. Shoaib Mansoor who did ‘Khuda Kay Liye’ is from television.

THE SENSUAL YOGINI! |
What made the super sexy Shilpa Shetty turn yogini? Shilpa tells Nona Walia how she's emotionally empowered and looking super hot because of yoga! And now, she's even going to a retreat to rearrange her past life karma!
SHILPA SHETTY’S social diary is full.
If this sexy siren desires, she’d be partying till wee hours every night. Yet, she chooses to break the rules and indulge in her new-found maturity. She’s packing to go to a Oneness camp for the weekend. Why? “I’ve got to calculate my past life karma quotient. So, I’m just going to a meditation camp at the Oneness University of Kalki Bhagwan. That’s the place Nicole Kidman also went to find peace. I know, I’m going to return transformed.”
When you walk into the incredible world of Shilpa Shetty. It’s difficult not to believe her miracle story. After all, she’s walking into them almost every other day. Curiously, I ask her what makes the very sensual Shilpa Shetty experiment with past life regression? “Sigh! I want to learn how to be a survivor in this competitive world.”
We guess, she means being the ultimate survivor. “I guess so, I want to learn to be a happy individual. It’s sort of a past life regression, you learn about your past karma and try to rearrange it. It’s an emotional, karmic healing. I want to learn what wrong I did in my last life, so that I get healed and don’t have to suffer. Everyone needs to cleanse their karma, I need the healing. Once you understand, you can be a better person.” Now, it’s not everyday, a Bollywood diva wants to take the road to inner transformation. So, why would the ultimate glamour queen, current global face of Bollywood want to ‘heal and transform’? “You could say, I’m an eternal yogini.
Yoga’s changed me. So, here you have the sensual, sexy Shilpa turn into a spiritual calm being. Yoga has calmed me. I was always spiritual even as a child. I was taught to pray, show gratitude. We had an attitude of gratitude. Even if life was ugly, bad or sad – we prayed.” Shilpa’s ‘Om’ moment with yoga has been interesting. “When I was doing martial arts, I used to do some relaxation asanas, as you need discipline and self-control.

Then five years ago, I had spondylitis, that’s when I seriously started practicing. Since, three years, I’ve been into Ashtanga yoga. In London, I would teach yoga to my housemaids every morning. Yoga happened to me, I didn’t go seeking it. Now, my yoga album is topping all charts. Shilpa’s yoga isn’t new-age or complicated. Rather, I’ve simplified it. I haven’t included Surya Namaskar because it is very complicated. I just wanted to give yogic quick-fixes to
people who live a fast-paced life.”
However, Shlipa’s survival guide to life is easy to practice. “My transformation hasn’t been a one night stand. It’s been slow, gradual. I’m a calmer individual. Of course, we’re living in
a world of such farce. But I needed to take time out for my personal self. You have to be willing to make the change in yourself. The best way to survive life is – never fret over what you don’t get. There’s a bigger plan for you. I wasn’t doing very well in Bollywood, and then Big Brother changed my destiny.”
Are you Destiny’s child? “Absolutely,” adds Shilpa, “I’m destiny’s child. I wasn’t meant to be born, my mother bled for four months when she was pregnant, and then she fell down the stairs in her eighth month of pregnancy. She nearly died, I believe I came into this world for a reason.”
She’s in a chatty mood, ecstatic over life and good things. What’s the secret of looking so terrific? “Everybody tells me, Shilpa you’ve never looked better. I quite agree. I think it’s yoga. The glow comes from within, it reflects on your skin and stays longer.” She’s been learning how to play the violin for Sunny Deol’s movie The Man. “It was the toughest thing I did in my life. Look, I’ve even developed biceps now. My instructor tells me most people give up learning in the first three days itself. I just wanted to be authentic while playing in the film.”
Do you believe in soulmates Shilpa? “Why even Paulo Coelho has said, ‘we have more than one soulmate’. I believe we move in soul groups, we meet the same people over different lifetimes, we have to finish the unfinished business with those people. And when we do, they walk away from our lives. I’m a great believer of Brian Weiss theory too. I enjoyed his Love is for Real. All the people you meet in this life are connected to you in your past lives.”

Just before we get too carried away with the off-the-shelf spiritual talk, she fiercely reinforces, how she loves the good things in life. “Why I work hard to enjoy materialism. I love the good things. I love my Versace dresses, diamonds, cars. I’m not apologetic about enjoying the good things in life.”

Bips is Rocky’s dream bride |

Would you describe Bipasha Basu as a modern bride? Fashion designer Rocky S, who kept her in mind when creating his exclusive, new and limited couture line that is on show today only at Aza, certainly would. Alka Nishar, who runs the multi-designer fashion store at Altamount Road, believes the collection symbolises a confident and fashion-conscious woman with Rocky S striking a balance between traditional and contemporary through grace and opulence. “The collection has an international appeal,” she added.
“This season’s silhouettes are ornamental with antique gold zari work and traditional Indian gota enhanced with mirrors and precious stones, reflecting an era of the past,” explained Rocky S.
Bipasha admitted, “The collection portrays the sensuality and aesthetics of today’s woman.” But there’s no mention of a marriage yet!

Apoorva Lakhia's Mission for Mission Istaanbul |
What is Mission Istaanbul all about?Mission Istaanbul is basically a film which comes in action genre. It's a fast paced action film, lot of quick cuts, lot of really innovative action and the good thing about it is that there is also a story behind it. And if you ask me what the story of Mission Istaanbul is about one man is offered a job in a foreign country, he takes up a job and what he realizes is that he stumbles upon a secret or information which is very critical to the entire planet. He manages making a copy of it and how is he on the run after that. And how I guess the whole world is after him from the Indian raw analysis we know India to the CI to the Turkish Police and how he finally gets out of the country with the help of various people which keep coming through different stages of the film.
Tell us about the cast of the film. How did you manage to find them?
We were looking for some one young to play a budding Indian journalist, a television journalist. So we zoomed it to Zayed Khan. The other advantage we had was that Zayed had never done a film like this because before this film he was known as a chocolate boy hero. And this the first time he agreed to play a very matured role where he is married and he is having marital problem and so that was very interesting to anti caste in a way. As far as a Turkish commando who was fired from his job for something he did not do and he is got a motivation to prove himself right. That was Vivek Oberoi and I have worked with Vivek Oberoi in ShootOut At Lokhandwala. We have a very clear understanding about the cinema we make and Vivek was my first choice for Rizwan's character. As far as Nikitin Dheer who plays the young brash owner of a multinational television channel which is AL Johara in our film and his father started the company and he is the young dude who has taken over the company who is very brash and makes decision straight on the spot. We thought Nikitin would be fantastic because he is large than a life. He is 6 feet 4 inches. He is massively build and he looks fantastic in a suit and he has done a fantastic job considering his second film. As far as Shabbir, he is very dear friend of mine and I don't see my self working without Shabbir because he is really a close friend and we needed someone who would play a terrorist or a terrorist brother and Shabbir has long and lovely side locks and he looked very good in Afghan clothes and plus Shabbir is a fantastic actor. So that goes for Shabbir. Suniel Shetty and I became very close friends during ShootOut At Lokhandwala and though Suniel has a policy that he does not act in any film, he produces. I had to convince him to do a guest appearance because making up my first film for Popcorn without Suniel wouldn't have been cool. As far as Shreya was concerned, we needed someone Indian who is also playing a reporter because my film otherwise is very modern and the clothes are very modern and cool. We needed someone to bring us back to our culture and that's why we selected Shreya Sharan because she was fantastic in Awaarapan and Shivaji and she has got a very nice face and she also plays a reporter and that was how Shreya came into the picture. And as far as Lisa Lobo character which is the action oriented girl who likes ride and drives car really very fast and really does a lot of action. We thought we'll launch a new girl because we needed more time from that girl. We needed her to rehearse how to drive a Mahindra and do stunts and we needed her to be really flexible as far as stunts were concerned.
How was the experience shooting at Istaanbul?
Shooting at Istaanbul was very good. Istaanbul is a beautiful city, is visually fantastic. Anywhere you put your camera can become a frame. Only thing we didn't count was that the whether would get so cold.
Any problems did you face during the action sequence?
Action is always difficult because it is very physical. Now the other thing is that when we were shooting at Istaanbul, sometimes it was 0 degrees to sometimes due to wind it was minus 10 degrees. And Istaanbul is not the easy place to shoot because it is extremely cold. So the actors in action cannot wear too many clothes so obviously there were situations where they were freezing. And the other thing is that the right amount of warm up is required. The only problem which we really had was when the close saves from the splinters blasting a little earlier than the timing. Shweta fractured her leg. My action director got into an accident. But they had cuts and wounds but that's the advantage of having talented, hard working actors who give everything to the film because I used to pump them up and they used to also feel that unless they have a cut they don't have enough blood to show after the shot and they have done a good job. So it became a one up man ship. And if Vivek had to jump from the fourth floor then Zayed wanted to jump from the seventh floor. So it was a good fun as a director.
What did you find is the toughest thing to manage while shooting for the film?
I think the toughest thing to manage was when Suniel was on the set, he is the biggest prankster of the film industry. So that catches on. So I think the toughest part about the film was to control the fun because I thought that everyone was having too much of fun for my film and I think that it should be slightly more serious and I guess I became the Villain trying to control them, but otherwise it was pretty smooth.
Have you given any special effects in your film?
No we have not given any special effects because I am not very familiar with the special effects genre. I have done a film with I am comfortable with.
Tell us something about the music of the film.
From the offset we have decided that we were not going to go with one music director. We were going to try different kind of sounds from different music directors, preety much following what I did on ShootOut At Lokhandwala. So we went to Anu Malik for two romantic songs because I think Anu is fantastic with the genre and I don't think that anyone has the sur and the taal better as far as the Indian music and Indian romantic songs are concerned. We went to Shamir Tandon because he had done one love for Suniel Shetty earlier and we bought the rights for the World Hold On which I think is the record of source because it had already been re recorded for almost 47 times so we bought the rights for that and made Shamir Tandon do this a really cool number on that. I made Mika do another number because he was preety good with 'Ganpat' in Shoot Out so he has done 'Apun Ke Saath' for Viveik and Chiranjan Bhatt who is the first time music director. I met him at the Popcorn office and he made me hear two three tracks and I thought it was very interesting, so I have two tracks with him. The first one is 'Mission Istaanbul' title track and the second one is 'Nobody Like You' which Abhishek Bachachan is shooting.
How was the experience shooting this film?
It was a very big learning experience for me because I have never done such a big budget film with so much action. Now action is very grueling because what happens is you have to be patient doing any action, a romantic scene can take you six hours to shoot but the same amount of a one or two minute action can take you seven days.

Can Genelia D'Souza Reverse The Trend? |
Genelia may reverse the trend of the industry where the stars, when they make their debut, it seldom happens that the male and female actors continue to have same flourishing career after a successful hit film as debut. It all started with BOBBY where Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia had a dream debut, but Rishi Kapoor went on to become a successful star and Dimple Kapadia became Rajesh Khanna's wife.
Raj Kapoor tried to do this with Rajiv Kapoor as well, but it was Mandakini who hogged the limelight and Rajiv Kapoor had to be content with a rather smallish career in the Hindi films. When Ajay Devgun was launched along with Madhu in PHOOL AUR KAANTE, Madhu could not follow in the success that this film achieved and Ajay Devgun still rules the roost while Madhu has literally given up her film career. In BEKHUDI while Kajol and Kamal Sadhana were introduced, Kajol still has the film fraternity eating out of her hands, while Kamal Sadhana has gone into oblivion.
BARSAAT had launched Bobby Deol and Twinkle Khanna, and it was Bobby who became successful, while Twinkle has chosen career of interior designing. In case of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel as well, though KAHO NA PYAR HAI was a dream debut for both of them, Ameesha could not capitalize on its success, and Hrithik Roshan became one of the top stars of the industry. Saif Khan and Mamta Kulkarni had a good debut in AASHIQ AWAARA, but Mamta Kulkarni has fallen by the way side and Saif still rules the roost.
In case of Gennelia it might be different as she already has a successful career in the South Indian film industry, and her greatest asset seems to be her infectious smile. This is what could turn the tide in her favour and could reverse the trend of industry as well.

Pankaj Advani, the former World Junior Billiards and Snooker champion shares some bindaas details about his fears, fetish and passion.
After winning the Australian Open recently, people's expectations of you must have gone up for the ongoing championship. Does that make you uneasy?
Make me uneasy? Shouldn't you be asking the others that? Haha! More than uneasy I'm just excited to be brushing shoulders with the world's best.
Since it is a new format and much shorter and accurate, will that prove to be a hindrance, or will it actually help youngsters like you?
This championship is actually in the traditional time format — a more accurate indicator of a cueist's skill and endurance. But the 'point' format, the shortened version, is a must as it makes the game quicker and more exciting.
How do you chill out in England these days, when you are not playing?
There is a multiplex nearby, so I will definitely catch a couple of flicks. I may just try my hand at roulette.
You are too young to be getting married at 22. But tell us something about the special woman in your life?

While Deepika Padukone kick started the film's campaign with a tremendous composition by Vishal-Shekhar, 'Khuda Jaane', the focus has now shifted to Bipasha Basu who is seen searching for her 'Lucky Boy'. Though there are no prizes for guessing that this lucky boy is no one but Ranbir himself, what impresses most in this funky number (rightly titled 'Lucky Boy') is Bipasha who towers above everyone else in the frame.
Gyrating to some seductive beats while being draped in attire, which is as oomphy as it gets, Bipasha results in soaring temperatures, courtesy some innovative choreography and catchy picturisation.
A club/lounge track that has Sunidhi Chauhan and Raja Hassan (of 'Maari Teetri - De Taali' fame) rendering their parts, 'Lucky Boy' sees Raja provide a Punjabi folk feel to the number. The song is inherently a club track where Hard Kaur too makes an appearance in the middle of the number. However, if at all the song is remembered in the long run, it would be due to Sunidhi's voice which drips of seduction at all ends.
A classy track, which reminds of an erstwhile composition of Vishal-Shekhar, 'Mind Blowing Maahiya' [CASH], 'Lucky Boy' indeed is one lucky number that has resulted in an enhanced curiosity for this Siddharth Anand film.
A YRF production, BACHNA AE HASEENO is all set to arrive on 15th August, a week after Akshay Kumar-Katrina Kaif starrer SINGH IS KINNG.

Juhi Babbar's marriage in trouble |
There’s buzz that distance has strained Raj and Nadira Babbar’s daughter’s marriage; but Juhi has something else to say
This paper would not like to suggest that the young couple is finding it difficult to make their long-distance marriage work. Though Juhi does admit she is often asked by friends about Bijoy and when he intends returning. An emotionally strong, young woman, and full of confidence, she is determined to ignore the rumours of the discord in her married life and continue to be Bijoy’s support back home. “This has been his lifetime’s dream, but I am not happy being by myself over here, and I’m sure that Bijoy isn’t happy being alone in the US either,” Juhi told BT when asked of the rumours.
Bijoy, too, dismissed the gossip with a message from the US that said, “I am a very private person. I would not like to comment on any claims or questions regarding our personal lives. I am abroad now and workwise, it’s a great time for both of us, and we do not want matters like this to disturb our focus.”
What was it that was said about absence making the heart grow fonder? We hope it’s true, and that this does not turn out to be a case of out of sight... out of mind, much as the churning gossip mills in Mumbai would like it to be.

Mani Ratnam Scripting Rs 120 Crore Deal |

Is Mani Ratnam cripting a Rs 120 crore deal?
Mani Sir, as he is known in Kollywood (Chennai), has been quietly working on the script of this film since the release of his super hit Guru in January 2007. The elusive director, who never gives interviews, has been keeping a low profile after the demise of his younger brother G Sreenivasan, the moving spirit behind Madras Talkies.
The Hindi version will feature Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai and Govinda in a negative role. Confirming that he has signed up for the movie, Govinda told TNN: "I am actually doing a film with Mani Sir. Isn't it every actor's dream to work with him? We met recently and I heard about my role, which interested me a lot. It is an intense film and my role will definitely surprise the audiences." Abhishek, who scored his first solo super hit with Guru, is all excited about this new untitled film, for which he has given bulk dates.
The Tamil and Telugu version will have Vikram doing Abhishek's role while Aishwarya Rai will be the common heroine for all the three versions. He is teaming up with his photographer from his early films PC Sreeram, the wizard of lighting in Indian cinema and his own 'discovery' A R Rahman.

Bollywood Actress Mallika Sherawat Interview |

Mallika Sherawat defends her trademark and opens up to BT
Brand
Mallika... why did you feel the need to have a trademark?
This is something my limited Haryanvi brain struggles to decipher. My brilliant lawyer’s handling it and would know better.
But isn’t this more a phenomenon in the west?
So are multiplexes, but there’s one in Rohtak now!
You play the quirky and kinky Pagli in your next film. Tell us about some of your quirks in real life?
Well, I’m very pushy about my vegetarian agenda. I nag my poor brother everyday about it and I’m obsessed with dental hygiene.
You always seem to play a role that is as good or even better than that of the hero of the film. A conscious decision to be unconventional?
The conscious decision is to accept only scripts and roles that I love. And occasionally succumb to greed! By the way in both Ugly Aur Pagli and Nagin, Ranvir Shorey and Irrfan Khan have better roles than I do.
Doesn’t your choice of roles keep you away from acting with the top heroes?
Stories and roles are more important to me than co-stars, although there are a couple of top heroes whose work and choices I admire.
Never been more excited! I’ve been a huge fan of her father and Blue Velvet’s one of my favourite films of all time. I also loved Jennifer’s last film, Surveillance. I’m now super excited about working with Rob Kurtzman on the film. He’s done all the Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez films and also the Evil Dead films. The other international film has taken some time as the script has been going through rewrites.

Did you refuse to appear on Dus Ka Dum as you didn’t want to share screen space with Salman Khan? Is there a problem between the two of you?
I have no problems with anyone, as long as they don’t have problems with me. My publicist decides where I should make an appearance and I obediently follow her advice.

Finally Aamir agreed," said the 24-year actress Manjari Phadnis |

‘I wasn’t Aamir Khan's choice for Jaane Tu’
...says Manjari Phadnis, who played the second lead in the hit film opposite debutant Imran
With a flop for a debut and an unsuccessful stint in the South, Manjari Phadnis, who played the second lead opposite debutant Imran in the hit flick Jaane Tu... Ya Jaane Naa, was hardly producer Aamir Khan's choice as he had his reservations in casting her for the role.
"Aamir did not want to cast me. I was the only one among the entire cast who was not approved by Aamir. But director Abbas Tyrewala was adamant," Manjari reveals.
"Almost 400 girls were auditioned for the role of Meghna and Abbas thought I fitted it the best. Finally Aamir agreed," said the 24-year-old-actress.
While Jaane Tu... launched Aamir's nephew Imran as an actor, it is also Abbas' first outing as a director. And Manjari says that Aamir didn't interfere much as he was busy with his directorial debut.
"Aamir left everything to Abbas as he was busy shooting for Taare Zameen Par'during that time. He used to come to the sets for a while and I did not have any long interaction with him during the entire shooting schedule."
But when Aamir saw the final product, he was impressed by Manjari's work.
"I was overwhelmed when he appreciated my work after seeing the film. It was a great achievement to get a compliment from a person like Aamir, who is one of the biggest superstars of the country."
Manjari said it was a life time opportunity for a newcomer like her to work with Aamir Khan productions.
"People like me, who do not come from a film background, have to struggle a lot for a good banner and a right film. I really thank Aamir for giving me the opportunity."
Manjari's career slumped after her debut film in 2004 Rok Sako To Rok Lo bombed at the box office. In the last four years, she did a few films in the south and one Hindi movie titled Mumbai Salsa.
"Though my films did not do well, the roles excited me. I was patient and did not accept just anything that came my way."
Asked why she wasn't seen in any of the pre-release promotions, she said: "I was told from the first day that I will be not be there in the promotion and I accepted it. I am happy people saw me as a surprise package."
But isn't that the normal practiced for big stars? "Yes, I know but I had to accept it."
She admits promotion would have worked better for her career, saying: "Yes, definitely. I would have surely liked if they would have promoted me a bit. But, people have started recognising me after Jaane Tu."
Manjari is getting a lot of offers after Jaane Tu..."I have not finalised any of them. I am doing a couple of films in the South and going through the scripts that came my way. I will only sign a film when the story excites me and I have a good role to play."
Manjari's next release will be a comedy film I am 24 which has Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey and Neha Dhupia among others.

He has three sisters, Rehana (Kanchana), Fatima Talat (Bala) and Israth. He is married to Saira and has three children - Khatija, Rahima and Amin. Rahman is an alumni of the PSBB Lake Area School, Nungambakkam, Chennai.
His nephew G. V. Prakash Kumar is a composer in the Tamil film industry.Son of Rehana (Kanchana). His father died when Rahman was nine years old, and his family rented out musical equipment as a source of income. Rahman converted to Islam after a personal family incident and was a student at PSBB for a short while before changing schools.
During these early years, Rahman served as a keyboard player and an arranger in bands such as "Roots" and "Nemesis Avenue" with friends including Sivamani, embracing numerous music genres. He played the keyboard and piano, in addition to, among others, the synthesizer, the harmonium and the guitar. His curiosity in the synthesizer in particular increased because, he says, it was the “ideal combination of music and technology.” began early training in music under Master Dhanraj. At the age of 11, he joined, as a keyboardist, the troupe of Ilaiyaraaja, of many composers to whom musical instruments belonging to Rahman's father were rented to. Rahman later played in the orchestra of M. S. Viswanathan and Ramesh Naidu, accompanied Zakir Hussain, Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan and L. Shankar on world tours and obtained a scholarship to Trinity College of Music in London, where he graduated with a degree in Western classical music. Once in an interview with Vijay TV's Coffee with Anu, Rahman described P. Susheela as his most favourite singer ever, whom he worked with in the Tamil film Pudhiya Mugam. Rahman trained in Indian classical music from a young age.
In a career spanning over a decade, Rahman, by 2003, had sold more than one hundred million records of his film scores and soundtracks world-wide, and sold over 200 million cassettes making him, along with fellow Asian Freddie Mercury, one of the world's top 10 all-time top selling recording artists.
During these early years, Rahman served as a keyboardist and an arranger in bands such as "Roots" with friends, embracing numerous music genres. He played the keyboard and piano, in addition to, among others, the synthesizer, the harmonium and the guitar. His curiosity in the synthesizer in particular increased because, he says, it was the “ideal combination of music and technology.” He began training in Carnatic music. At the age of 11, he joined, as a keyboardist, the troupe of Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja, one of many composers to whom musical instruments belonging to Rahman's father were rented to. Rahman later played in the orchestra of M. S. Viswanathan and Ramesh Naidu, accompanied Zakir Hussain and Kunnakudi Vaidyanathan on world tours and obtained scholarship to Trinity College at Oxford University, where he graduated with a degree in Western classical music.

In 1991, Rahman began his own music recording and mixing studio, attached to backyard of his house, called the Panchathan Record Inn. He initially composed music jingles for advertisements, Indian Television channels and music scores in documentaries, among other projects. In 1992, he was approached by film director Mani Ratnam to compose the score and soundtrack for Ratnam's Tamil film Roja. The debut led Rahman to receive the Rajat Kamal award for Best Music Director at the National Film Awards, the first time ever by a first-time film composer. Rahman has since then gone on to win the award three more times (for his scores for Minsaara Kanavu (Electric Dreams, Tamil) in 1997, Lagaan (Tax, Hindi) in 2002, Kannathil Muthamittal (If Kissed on the Cheek, Tamil) in 2003), the most ever by any composer.
Rahman's work is also unique in the fact that his collaborations with some film directors have always resulted in successful soundtracks. In particular, he has worked with Mani Ratnam on ten films until 2006, all of which have been musical hits. Also notable is his collaboration with the director S. Shankar in the films Gentleman, Kadhalan, Indian, Jeans, Mudhalvan, Nayak, Boys and Sivaji.
His first movie album Roja was listed in TIME's "Top 10 Movie Soundtracks of All Time" in 2005. Rahman continued to record frequently in his studio, the Panchathan Record Inn. In 2005, a newly developed recording studio, attached to the Inn called A.M. Studios was opened. It is considered to be the most developed, equipped and high tech studio of Asia. In 2006, Rahman launched his own music label, KM Musiq. It's first release was his soundtrack to the film Sillunu Oru Kaadhal which it released worldwide, in August 2006. His latest work includes Saathiya,Rang De Basanti, Sillunu Oru Kaadhal, Guru, Varalaru - The History of the Godfather, Sivaji: The Boss, Azhagiya Tamil Magan,Jodhaa Akbar,Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na and ADA: A Way of Life . Rahman has scored the movie Provoked, co-scored Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and is working on Chamki Chameli to be released in 2008 and Hindi version of Tamil blockbuster Ghajini. He is a recipient of the Padma Shri.
Other works
Rahman has been involved in several projects aside from film. He made an album Vande Mataram (1997) on India's 50th anniversary of independence to immense success. He followed it up with an album called Jana gana mana, a conglomeration of performances by many leading exponents/artists of Indian classical music. In addition to writing jingles for ads, he has composed several orchestrations for athletic events and T.V. and internet media publications, documentaries and short films.
In 1999, Rahman, along with choreographers Shobhana and Prabhu Deva Sundaram and a dancing troupe from the Tamil film industry performed with Michael Jackson in Munich, Germany, for his "Michael Jackson and Friends Concert." In 2002, he composed his maiden stage production Bombay Dreams (2002) following a commission from famous musical theatre composer Andrew Lloyd Webber. Furthermore, Rahman, along with the Finnish folk music band Värttinä, composed the music for The Lord of the Rings theatre production. He composed the piece "Raga's Dance" for Vanessa-Mae's album Choreography (2004).

In the last six years, he has performed in three successful world tours of his concerts to audiences in Singapore, Australia, Malaysia, Dubai, UK, Canada, the US (Hollywood Bowl and 3d tour) and India. A two-disc soundtrack, Introducing A. R. Rahman, (2006) featuring 25 pieces he composed from his Tamil film scores was released in May 2006.
Music style
Rahman's interest in the works of Classical and Romantic period composers, Carnatic composers, early film composers and predecessors K. V. Mahadevan and Vishwanathan-Ramamoorthy of the film industry of Tamil Nadu and others continued through his late teens. He further explored and trained in Carnatic music, Western classical, Hindustani music and the Qawwali style of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, in addition to numerous other styles. His interest and outlook in music is said to stem from his love of experimentation. As a result, his scores have alternated from songs and themes composed covering a variety of genres, with unconventionally-grouped instruments, and different vocal styles being used and combined together in some of his film soundtracks, to more traditional orchestral themes with leitmotif techniques composed in others. Rahman's works often feature a mix of minimalist songs and evocative, thematic pieces, building on his differing chord progressions and rhythms. He has written scores and songs with new and varied melodic and percussive sounds from instruments of different music systems.

This includes setting up and partnering with educational institutions across India to provide education to children who do not have easy access to schools or funds. In 2004, he was appointed as the Global Ambassador of the Stop TB Partnership, a project by WHO. He has shown support to charities including Save the Children, India, and worked with Cat Stevens / Yusuf Islam for his song "Indian Ocean" . The song featured a-ha keyboard player Magne Furuholmen and Travis drummer, Neil Primrose. The proceeds of the song went towards helping orphans in Banda Aceh, one of the areas worst affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami.

Vidya Malavade Would Jump Off Helicopters |

Chak de, Vidya!
That’s the reason I agreed to be a part of the show,” she says. As expected doing the stunts was not a cakewalk. Vidya says, “The first stunt was the scariest because I was running a temperature of 103 degrees. The stunt involved jumping off a helicopter into ice cold water and swimming some more. I was thinking whether I should attempt it at all. But then to go back without attempting a single stunt was not acceptable to me. Even when I was in the helicopter, I wasn’t sure about doing the stunt. But then I leaped off the chopper before I could think anymore.” She adds, “Sometimes you shouldn’t think before taking the leap.” Of course Vidya had to bear the consequences too. She was left with a black-and-blue eye and a cut above her eyebrow. Also, Akshay Kumar, who’s the host of the show encouraged her to give it a shot. “Akshay is so much fun. He’s a pro at doing all the stunts. He makes it seem so easy, but when you attempt it, you realise how tough it is,” she says. Looking at Vidya’s brave attempt she can surely try her hand at some actionoriented films.

Being The Beautifully Balanced Bipasha Basu |

Actress Bipasha Basu balances a fitness routine of yoga, cardio and a nutritious diet
Bips has strong views, knows her plus points and is quite clear where she wants to be. In the time we spent on an outdoor shoot in Bangkok, I couldn’t help but notice Bipasha Basu’s change in attitude. Having known her from her modelling days in 1997, where she was laidback about fitness, it’s great to see she actually had a personal trainer accompany her on an outdoor of 25 days! This sudden change happened as late as 2004, and I strongly suspect her super-fit boyfriend must have something to do with it. She has no vices like drinking or smoking.
Obsessed with the Suryanamaskar (she does a 108 of these a day!), the exotic face and voluptuous body of the ‘90s has given way to a more sculpted face and a fit body to die for. A trim exterior is backed by a strong core (thanks to some disciplined yoga with BharatThakur’s team). She spends two hours, six days a week in the gym.

For someone who used to dread dance sequences, she’s become the Bidi Jalailay girl, who also happens to be the only nonsporting person to endorse Reebok! She trains in the morning. Her routine is Day 1 — upper body,Day 2 — abdomen workout, Day 3 — legs and lower body, Day 4 — gluteus maximus, Day 5 — upper body, Day 6 — abdomen and gluteus maximus, accompanied by 108 Suryanamaskars daily with 50 minutes of cardio, and a 10-minute warm-up, which includes stretching, and holding dance postures with emphasis on breathing. Weekly four times, the 50 minutes of cardio is split up into 20 minutes on the treadmill, 10 minutes on the elliptical machine and 20 minutes on the rowing machine, twice a week.
She also does a spinning class a week. She believes in weak-point training, works especially hard on her triceps and does the Bhujangasana really well. A victim of an injured left knee, she does physio for it. Being flat-footed, she grips paper with her feet to overcome the problem. Post a trip to Rio, she started working on the gluteus maximus, as a ‘good butt’ is a sign of a great body! She is a strong believer in circuit training, which keeps the heart rate up. To break monotony, she adopts a new routine every four months. She uses yoga to strengthen her lower back, core muscles and redevelop her left knee muscles.
Equipped with little knowledge three-and-a-half years ago (which included running with bad shoes), she caught on by reading and with help from her trainer Paul. She doesn’t train when very tired and averages six-and-a-half hours of sleep.

Bipasha’s diet starts with tea, almonds soaked overnight and warm water. At 9 am, she has six egg whites, mushroom and toast with porridge, skimmed milk and fruits. At 11 am, one apple. Lunch sharp at 1 pm consisting of green vegetables, dal, grilled chicken or fish, green salad, two soya chapattis and strictly no rice except her birthday, which is quite an achievement for a Bengali! She has tea at 5 pm with digestive biscuits. Dinner is at 9 pm with dal, salad, three vegetables cooked in olive oil, grilled fish or chicken with a miniscule portion of dessert.
Sounds exotic? Well, that she is, dark and Indian in essence, and now very fit!

TANIA SACHDEV Chess Champion - Profile |
A student of Sri Venkateshwara College, Delhi University, she discovered her interest for the game at the age of six.
“It was too early for me to know what winning and losing meant.ljust pursued it as a hobby.” However, she soon realised that only the game of chess was going to decide her future move. “I was good in studies too but I realised I was happier when I played chess.” According to Tania, many people sacrifice either their passion for sport to study or they sacrifice studies, but for Tania both were important. “It is just that I had to put in double the effort. Since I gave my 100% to whatever I did, I managed my studies too.”
Tania has won many national and international accolades. In 1994, she created history to become the first girl to win the boys title in British championship in Norwich ever since the British championship started 86 years ago. In the same event, she won five gold medals. In the year 2000, she won a gold medal in the Asia under-14 championship held in Tehran.
She was also listed in the Limca Book of Records as a world record holder for being the youngest to win a Gold Medal in an international event in the world. She became a Woman Grandmaster (WGM) at the age of 18. She made her final norm by drawing the 10th and penultimate round with Hungary’s Lajos Seres. Tania became the eighth Indian Woman Grandmaster joining the list of S Vijayalakshmi, Koneru Humpy, Aarthie Ramaswamy, S Meenakshi, D Harika, Nisha Mohota and Swati Ghate.

While he’s directing Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol for My Name Is Khan, he’s also giving them the boot for another venture. This one is an animated version of the 1998 hit Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Its lead actors, including Rani Mukherjee have been replaced by three cute pooches in the film, and will be dubbing for it instead. Apart from them, actors like Riteish Deshmukh, Sajid Khan, Simi Garewal and Sanjay Dutt will also be lending their voices. About his special appearance in Fashion? “My role in Fashion lasts for two minutes. My good friend Priyanka and the film’s writer Niranjan requested me to do it for them and I agreed, all I have to do is sit in the front row of a fashion show and clap anyway”, he says.

But now Garner's former Alias co-star Garber--who officiated the couple's 2005 wedding--has confirmed the news, insisting, "Yes, she is."
And a source tells Usmagazine.com that Garner is already five months into her pregnancy.
The insider adds, "She and Ben are still deciding whether they'll ask [to hear] the sex of the child."
The pair welcomed daughter Violet in December 2005.

Yuvraj Speaks About His Hits And Misses With Dips And Kim |

Yuvraj Singh’s filmi affairs of the heart
The cricketer who remained mum and chose to take the silent road to the endless rumours about the two has finally opened up all about that went wrong between the two in the latest issue of People magazine.
While the rest of the speculations about the two seeing each other and getting up, close and personal at the famous hangouts are true, the story that it was Ranbir that caused the two to part ways is ‘so false’.
Apparently the two decided to call it quits, as their priorities did not match besides the lack of time that they had for each other.
The cricketer in his interview stated that the two met after the T-20 World Cup.
"I had just come back from South Africa and we met through common friends in Mumbai. We liked each other and wanted to know more,” said Yuvraj.
After going out on a few dates, the two knew that they clicked. However, coming from different professions they didn’t run into each other much and Yuvi soon got busy with series against the visiting Pak team and then with his tour down under, while the dusky Deepika went onto promote her debut flick ‘Om Shanti Om ‘.
"We didn't spend enough time with each other to know if it was going to be a long term thing. As things turned out she moved on and so did I. She was with me and now she's moved on with another person. I guess it's her personal choice. If someone wants to move out of a relationship, there isn't much that the other person can do. I'm not blaming anyone but just stating the facts," said Yuvraj.
Setting aside rumors that he is a ladies man as he has often being portrayed the cricketer said, “For some reason people always think of me as someone who is with a woman only to have fun. When I get into a relationship I really have to love the person. I don't fool around. Before Deepika, I was seeing Kim (Sharma) for four years and it was a serious and committed relationship."
As for the other lady Kim Sharma, Yuvraj stated that the affair that lasted for four years was the best time in his life. "Kim and I just gelled together."
The cricketer stated that the glam girl Kim did have a very good influence in his life and he learnt a lot from her.
“When I met her, I wasn't very outgoing. I learnt a lot from her. She polished up my sense of dressing. She taught me that going out and meeting different people always helps. She also told me not to get affected with what people say,"
After taking a very sporty outlook towards all his break ups, this sportsman is now looking for a serous relationship that is for keeps.

Kareena Throws Shahid out Of Her Next Movie |
It may be recalled that not too long ago Kareena was upset with Imtiaz when he had cast Deepika Padukone opposite her beau Saif Ali Khan in his next movie. Saif wanted Imtiaz to cast Kareena but the director declined in what will be Saif's home production. To appease Kareena Imtiaz had promised to cast her in his next movie. It seems Kareena just doesn't want to be in the same frame as Shahid. On his part Shahid has time and again maintained that he has no issues working with Kareena.

Vidya Balan with Kismat ‘Promotion’ |

Celebrities promoting their upcoming projects are a common sight these days. Just before the release, all the lead actors get busy promoting their films whole heartedly. Interestingly, a similar sight was seen just before the release of LoveStory 2050 where Harman and Priyanka promoted their movie with every possible opportunity, resulting into a negative publicity. Be it good or bad, it is clear that promotions do affect the release of the film tremendously.
Similarly, one such face seen very often these days is of Vidya Balan publicising her much talked about film, Kismat Konnection with Shahid Kapur as the man in lead. The film has been in news for a long time now for various reasons, which surely can be considered as an unnecessary hype and over exposure getting undue importance. However, Vidya has a different take on all of this. She considers promotions to be a healthy way to get in touch with the fans and a wonderful medium of one- to- one communication with the audiences. Whatever it might be, promotions definitely generate curiosity among the audiences driving them to the cinema halls. Though, the after effects are not guaranteed.

Rahul Bose four kissing scenes with Mallika |
"Why just one kiss?" retorts Rahul. "I have four kissing scenes with Mallika this time. Every time my director Sanjay Chhel was frustrated by my lack of talent, he asked me to kiss Mallika." He continues, "It's not as though we volunteered to kiss. It was part of the story. Mallika isn't the only co-star I've kissed. I kissed Laila Rouass in Split Wide Open, Perizaad Zorabian in Mumbai Matinee and in Govind Nihalani's Takshak, I kissed Nethra Raghuraman. Lately, I've kissed Saba Azad in Dil Kabaddi. So my kisses spread far and wide. Did I kiss Rinke Khanna in Jhankar Beats? I can't remember."
That's quite a record, almost close to Emran Hashmi's reputation as a serial kisser! However, the talented actor says, "Kissing on screen is always a gamble. It somehow doesn't come across as aesthetically as it should.

World's Oldest Blogger, Olive Riley, Dies At 108 |
Olive Riley began blogging in February 2007 after a friend suggested the idea and offered to type up the posts on her behalf.
Her blog, The Life of Riley, became an international hit, with readers logging on from the United States to Russia to hear stories about her life.
Mrs Riley' tales of surviving two world wars and the Depression, bringing up three children on her own and working as a cook in the Australian outback and a barmaid in Sydney, were also nominated for a Blogger's Choice award in 2007.
Not content to stick to writing, she later branched out into video, posting clips of herself talking and singing on YouTube, the video-sharing website.
In her 74th and final post on June 26, she wrote about moving into a nursing home because of her ill health.
"I still feel weak and can't shake off that bad cough," she said.
She also described singing "a happy song" with a visitor and said she had "read a whole swag of email messages and comments from my internet friends today".
"I was so pleased to hear from you. Thank you, one and all," she wrote.
Born in Broken Hill, a mining town in the Australian bush, in 1899, Olive would have turned 109 in October.
Her grandson, Darren Stone, said loved the attention her blogs - or blobs as she once mistakenly called them - brought her.
"She enjoyed the notoriety - it kept her mind fresh," he told Australian newspapers.
"She had people communicating with her from as far away as Russia and America on a continual basis, not just once in a while.
"What kept her going was the memories she had, and being able to recall those memories so strongly."
Bloggers have started posting their own tributes to Mrs Riley.
Shirley Buxton wrote : "She was an amazing woman and will be mourned by her family and her readers who numbered into the thousands."
Mrs Riley's funeral will be held later this week.
Maria Amelia Lopez from Galicia in northern Spain can now rightfully claim the title of the world's oldest blogger.
The woman dubbed "little granny" by her readers has had over 1.2 million hits since she started her blog in December 2006 when her grandson set it up for her 95th birthday.
Her chronicle, which she writes sporadically a couple of times a month, is a collection of thoughts on subjects ranging from the inflictions of old age to her take on modern life.
Ms Lopez claims it has opened a whole new world for her, putting her in touch with people of all generations across the globe but in a recent post she complained about some of the language used by those leaving comments on her blog.

Doctor: Angelina Jolie Gives Birth to Twins in France |
A million dollars, two, five, 10 even 20 million? Exactly how much the first "official" snaps will be sold for is not clear. But the figures being bandied about make the eyes pop.
Nice Matin, the hometown daily in the Riviera city in the south of France where Jolie gave birth, put the twins' worth at more than $11 million. It first broke news of the birth and reported Sunday that the couple have sold the rights for the first photo of their newly enlarged family to a U.S. publication, which it did not name, and that the proceeds would go to charity.
"I've never known a set of pictures to be worth this amount of money," said Darryn Lyons, owner of Big Pictures, a celebrity photo agency in London. He estimated that the twins' official photos will be worth between $15 million and $20 million.
Related
The only other photos that "would possibly come that close is Britney Spears giving birth to an alien," he said.
Veteran London-based celebrity publicist Max Clifford estimated that the first photos could fetch 10 million pounds — roughly $20 million — "which would make it the biggest baby deal ever."
"These kind of pictures sell lots of magazines," he said. "It's a 10-million-pound gamble as to whether the ends justify the means. But obviously it's a very calculated risk because whoever lands the photos will have a lot of experience with the popularity of mum and dad."
Cue the paparazzi. They've been camped in Nice since shortly after Jolie's admission to the Lenval hospital there at the end of June. For them, the Brangelina twins were the biggest story of the year. It's been a cat-and-mouse game between photographers and the hospital, which says it put up a special material on the windows of the couple's room that prevents telephoto lenses from peering through.
"It's the most glamorous couple in the world. Brad and Angelina are the most beautiful people. They are very popular, that is why we are here," one paparazzo in Nice said. The paparazzo would not be identified by name or agency.
This photographer staked out Brangelina for two months before the birth, going back to the Cannes film festival when the family was staying in the nearby St. Jean Cap Ferrat mansion of Microsoft founder Paul Allen. The photographer acknowledged that paparazzi bother people — but said it was the price of their fame, adding that most of the time Pitt and Jolie seemed to tolerate their presence.
"No anger. Only when they want to be alone they tell us, 'Please leave us alone.' They are very kind. They are nice," the photographer said.
Never mind that Jolie was ensconced on the fifth floor in a section of the maternity ward that has been security-enhanced and that she was staying out of sight behind the mirrored blue windows. Paparazzi still had hopes that they would get a valuable shot of Jolie — either as an expectant or brand-new mother.
Clifford said he didn't think that paparazzi will be able to get any candid shots of the babies and, if they do, he didn't think they will have much impact on the value of the official photos.
"If there are sneak shots, they're not going to be anything like the posed ones," he said. "All it does is whet the appetite of those who want to see real quality pictures."
Lyons of Big Pictures also did not think paparazzi will get candid shots.
"There's always a chance in this business. It's down to who is good at what they do," he said. "If you were to get a paparazzi set of photos you could easily buy a little island to live on for the rest of your life."
"Certainly, the feeding frenzy just goes to show that people talk about the celebrity-obsessed world we live in. If publishers are willing to pay up to 15 million, there are obviously plenty of people wanting to see them."
"In the celebrity world, it seems to be the double second coming," he added.

Usha Mittal, Tina Ambani in Forbes 'Wives of Billionaires' list |
Usha Mittal is the wife of world's fourth richest person and steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal while Tina Ambani is married to sixth wealthiest person Anil Ambani, whose flagship firm Reliance Communications is currently in talks with South African telecom major MTN for a possible amalgamation.
According to Forbes , Lakshmi Mittal has a personal fortune of 45 billion dollars whereas Anil Ambani's net worth is pegged at 42 billion dollars.
In an article on its website, Forbes said that "gaining membership to the billionaire wives' club is no easy feat... so what does it take to marry one?... For starters, looks are great -- but brains are even better."
Taking about 53-year old Tina Ambani, the magazine said that "being famous of your one accord is often a plus." Prior to marrying Anil Ambani, Tina Munim was a famed Bollywood actress, it noted.
She made her name in the 1978 blockbuster Des Pardes and has starred in more than 30 films and "now her husband, Anil Ambani, ranked sixth-richest in the world in March, is reportedly in talks through one of his companies to become Steven Spielberg's Dreamworks SKG's principal financier.
"Patron of contemporary Indian art is mother of two sons," it noted.
At the same time, Usha Mittal, wife of the world's fourth richest person and who has apparently worked in the steel business for 15 years, has clearly earned the trust of Lakshmi Mittal, Forbes said.
"Last year, his steel company, ArcelorMittal, passed a resolution that entrusted her with temporary responsibility of managing the world's largest steel company if the managing board of directors is permanently absent or prevented from handling duties. She apparently worked in the steel business for 15 years, at one time reportedly running a plant in Indonesia.
"She is also the namesake of the Usha Mittal Institute of Technology, a university that promotes the womens' education in India," the magazine added.
Hollywood celebrity director Steven Spielberg's wife Kate Capshaw, Larry Ellison's spouse Melanie Craft, Susan Dell who is the wife of Michael Dell, media baron Rupert Murdoch's spouse Wendi Deng, Kenneth Griffin's wife Anne Dias Griffin, Lucy Southworth who is married to search engine giant Google co-founder Larry Page and Barry Diller's wife Diane Von Furstenburg are part of the list.
Interestingly, wives of only three people among the world's top 10 richest have made it into the list, which has a total ten such women. Apart from Usha Mittal and Tina Ambani, the other person is Melinda Gates, wife of Bill Gates, the world's third richest billionaire.
In March, Forbes had ranked legendary investor Warren Buffet as the richest person with a fortune of 62 billion dollars. He was followed by Mexican telecom tycoon Carlos Slim Helu with a net worth of 60 billion dollars while Bill Gates slipped to the third spot from the previous year's top ranking, with wealth to the tune of 58 billion dollars.
Anil Ambani's elder sibling Mukesh Ambani was ranked as the fifth richest in the world with a net worth of 43 billion dollars.
Another Indian, K P Singh, the man behind realty major DLF was ranked at the eighth place with a personal wealth of 30 billion dollars.
Other members in the top ten league are retailer Ikea's Ingvar Kampard at the seventh spot (31 billion dollars), Russian billionaire Oleg Deripaska (28 billion dollars) at the ninth place and Germany's Karl Albrecht procuring the tenth position (27 billion dollars).
While all the ten of them are married, Carlos Slim is widowed and has six children.

Top BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani Interview |
Top BJP leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani answers N. Ram’s questions on the BJP’s electoral prospects; lessons learnt from 2004; coalition governance; Ayodhya; Gujarat 2002; his reputation as a hardliner; the intra-parivar controversy over his Jinnah remarks in Pakistan; the explosive Amarnath Shrine land affair; combating terrorism; and the contemporary meaning of Hindutva. This is the concluding part of an in-depth interview given toThe Hinduat the residence of the Leader of the Opposition in New Delhi on Wednesday. The first part was published on July 11.
Advaniji, you are not known to exaggerate the political prospects of your own party or formation. What is your realistic assessment of the political prospects of the BJP and the NDA at this juncture?
In a country like ours, so large, such a large electorate, so many States to bear in mind, it is never easy, particularly when you don’t know when the elections are going to be held — in November or some time next year? — to be precise or even close to precision insofar as the outcome of an election is concerned. But I’ve seen elections right from ’52 till today, every election I’ve seen. I have never seen so much despair in the people and so much disillusionment in the people with an incumbent government as with the present government.
In fact, people have been asking me, ‘If NDA comes to power tomorrow, we will be inheriting a very difficult situation, in the field of economy as well as in the field of foreign policy and several other fields … the problems of agriculture.’ But as I said to some of my colleagues yesterday: ‘All these have to be tackled. But much more than that, during the six years of NDA rule there was a feeling of buoyancy. The development of the infrastructure; the highways built up; numerous facilities, like the kisan credit card and all that, were given to the farmers. And happily, the growth in the field of IT came at that time. Telephones, which were a real headache for us for decades; I have been in Parliament from 1970 and I know that one of the biggest complaints from the constituency was ‘Telephone mil sakta hai kya, telephone mil sakta hai kya? [can you help us get a telephone?]’ And suddenly these mobile phones and all that came.
Of course it’s technology development but it came at that time. We managed the IT development and the communications in a manner that gave great satisfaction to the people. I wish our plans for the interlinking of rivers also had made some progress. We set up a committee. Now all these things had made the country buoyant, the people buoyant. The feeling was that the country was moving forward. Unfortunately in the last four years, there has been a feeling of despair. So I said to my colleagues that the first task is to be able to do things in the first two years itself which recreate hope — that now things are happening and the country will move forward.
Lessons from 2004?
As the next Prime Minister should the NDA or the BJP-led coalition win the next general election, you surely know that the outcome of the last one was a political upset. Virtually no one I knew — other than Sharad Pawar, who once gave me a fairly accurate prediction — expected that. What is the lesson you have learnt from the last experience, in particular the campaign that highlighted the “India Shining” theme?
[The lesson from] the last experience is: ‘Don’t be overconfident. And do not neglect your own constituency.’ I’m not referring to the individual constituency, I’m talking of the party’s constituency.
It was neglected?
Yes, they did feel neglected. We did not neglect them. And very often that has been a continuing process of education for my own constituency also in these years. But if you have a coalition government, then the limitations imposed by a coalition also should be borne in mind. They should not be disregarded, not only by the party or those who are in power but also by its constituency.
May I tell you this has been a contrast — talking about the nuclear issue. In our case, among the distinctive features that the BJP incorporated in its [2004 election] manifesto, which were not there in the manifesto of any of our allies, one was that the BJP was in favour of making India a nuclear weapons state. Therefore, we would develop a nuclear deterrent of our own. No other alliance partner of ours had this in its manifesto. So when we were preparing our common minimum programme, we discussed with them all these things. And it was only when they accepted it, all of them, including the AIADMK and the Akali Dal and all of them who were with us, that we incorporated it in the common minimum programme, which we described as the National Agenda of Governance.
Our other distinctive features, they would not agree to. We did not press them at all — except subsequently at one stage when they agreed that if a temple can be built at Ayodhya, either by a court verdict or by agreement between the two communities, it should go through. It was much later. But in the National Agenda of Governance, only one point, namely: ‘Yes, we should go in for Pokhran.’ Pokhran was not [specifically] mentioned, but nuclear deterrent. And the credit goes to Vajpayee-ji that on the 19th of March 1998 he was sworn in and within less than two months, on the 11th of May, 1998, we had Pokhran-II.
And in contrast — the Communists have a point, the Left parties when they complain, ‘Was this in the Congress manifesto? Was this in the Common Minimum Programme? It wasn’t there,’ so they have a point …
Nor the ‘strategic alliance.’
Therefore our coalition functioned very well. And today one of the points that we are going to hammer home to the electorate is: ‘You just compare the functioning of these coalitions — one the NDA, the other the UPA — and see the contrast!’
On the backburner?
Now this brings me to the other issues you referred to — the issue of the Ram temple, Article 370, and the Uniform Civil Code. They were kept on the back burner during NDA rule.
I won’t call it the back burner. I don’t call it the back burner. If we were to have a government of our own and we don’t do it, then it’s on the back burner. But when a coalition is formed of several parties who do not agree, then whatever is agreed upon has to be implemented. I remember that this is what I said the first time even to V.P. Singh when he became Prime Minister, with our outside support. I as president of the party wrote him a long letter, in which I said that ‘In my manifesto and your manifesto, the Janata Dal manifesto, there are many common points. I hope — ‘even though I’m supporting you from outside, without my support your government cannot be formed’ — I hope that while carrying out your programmes, you will keep in mind that the issues that are common to both should be implemented, freedom of information, this, that, there were several things. But if there is any issue on which there is a difference of opinion, we would be free to withdraw support. And that’s what happened actually.
Yes. This could be repeated because in the next test, your allies could do quite strongly in some States, you will have formidable allies ...
Therefore, coalition dharma. The first and foremost guideline should be: whatever is agreed upon in the common minimum programme should be done.
Hindutva hardliner?
Now this question you must have been asked in many forms. Mr. Vajpayee, who was once described by Mr. Karunanidhi as ‘the right man in the wrong party,’ was reputed for taking along coalition partners of different ideological hues. You have a reputation for being a hardliner on core Hindutva issues. That’s the perception. Is that a valid differentiation? Why don’t you let us into your innermost thoughts on this question?
Anyone who calls my party a ‘wrong party,’ you cannot expect me to agree with him in his assessment. No one — not Vajpayee-ji — would agree with him. But I can tell you that, in my experience, what surprised me was my experience in Pakistan. Even today people coming from Pakistan to Delhi, meeting everyone, whosoever has invited them, they invariably ask: ‘Can we not meet Advani?’ Anyone who goes to Pakistan will find that the impression about Advani in Pakistan, where this [the perception of him being a hardliner] should have been the maximum, [is quite different]. So it only means that somehow I have acquired an image. So many people have contributed to it, not only adversaries but others also. I don’t mind it that way.
Remarks on Jinnah of August 1947
In fact, this brings me to your celebrated remarks in Pakistan, of which The Hindu did quite a bit of editorial coverage …
Yes, you wrote an editorial. I greatly appreciate all that you wrote that time…
… about your remarks on Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s secular vision of August 1947.
Yes and surprisingly before going to Pakistan, I made a longish speech here — just on this lawn outside, releasing a book on Pakistan — where I quoted exactly what Jinnah had said in his first speech in the Constituent Assembly. Because I had just then come from Kolkata where Swami Ranganadananda had reminded me of that speech. Nothing happened at that time. I was Deputy Prime Minister at that time.
That was misconstrued and even targeted within your camp.
I know that.
How did you respond to that?
I don’t blame them. It was not targeted. It was misunderstood. There was no deliberate criticism of it.
How did you cope with that period? Must have been difficult for you.
I felt… Prannoy Roy interviewed me on NDTV and I told him: ‘I did feel distressed about the reaction in my party but my greater distress was that my party lost an opportunity.’ When in six days whatever I said or did there [in Pakistan] was able to change the totally wrong and negative image that the party had. I wish the party had followed it up, built on that.
Gujarat 2002
What happened in Gujarat in 2002 was a very serious matter. You were in government. At the least it was one of the issues on which people might have judged the BJP adversely in the 14th general election. What is your feeling now about what happened in Gujarat in 2002, this huge loss of life, this genocide?
There was no genocide. Genocide is a word that should not be lightly used. But in India there have been riots and riots — and sometimes riots far worse than those that took place in Gujarat in 2002. In fact, in the capital itself, I have been witness to what was not a riot — because not a single Hindu was killed when 3500 Sikhs were killed, in 1984. It’s sad. It’s tragic. It should not happen. It is to be condemned. So also in Gujarat I condemned it, everyone condemned it. Whether it was Godhra or the post-Godhra riots, all were condemnable. But that doesn’t mean that you blame whosoever is at the helm of affairs for ‘genocide’ and what not. And the only Chief Minister in the country who has distinguished himself by his performance also being pursued in a manner, so viciously, as to have him denied a visa in America, which has never happened before with any Chief Minister of the country! This is not fair. And therefore I did defend Narendra Modi.
Amarnath land controversy
Now on the Amarnath shrine land issue, the issue of the GO which perhaps was misconstrued. But the campaign on both sides raised communal tensions. Had you been in the central government, how would you have handled this in the first instance? A sensitive issue was clearly mishandled when we don’t need more trouble in Jammu & Kashmir.
I wish the Chief Minister’s advice had been respected. I went to Amarnath on the 20th of June, just two days after the yatra started. I spoke to the shrine executives who told me all that had been going on. And I spoke to many of the pilgrims. There were thousands there, at the shrine itself and all along the way. Spoke to many. Almost everyone was telling me that ‘Whatever assistance we have got, help we have got, we have got it from the Army, not from the State officers.’
Because the PDP’s attitude was hostile. They were critical even of the Chief Minister at that time. The Chief Minister also was unhappy about it. I have been several times to Vaishnavodevi [in Jammu] where a similar shrine has been created. And there similar facilities and land allotment have also been made to enable the pilgrims to feel happy. Today those who are used to going on pilgrimages often come back from Vaishnavodevi with a comment: ‘Why cannot all the places in the country which are places of pilgrimage be run in the same manner as Vaishnavodevi is being run?’
The shrine in Amarnath is also, like the Vaishanavodevi Shrine, created by a resolution of the Assembly. Here that shrine is created and then when the government thinks of giving all the facilities — temporary facilities, toilets, this, that, resting places, lighting, etc. — there is such an uproar!
Instead of correcting it and telling the PDP that ‘You are wrong,’ the authorities succumbed and succumbed in a manner as to lose even the stewardship of the government, lose the government. What kind of attitude is this? There is no reason, no justification, no explanation — except that it is a very glaring example of what I have always described as pseudo-secularism. ‘That may be a Hindu shrine, all right, do with it what you want. But this is in a Muslim locality, where the bulk of the people are Muslims. Therefore you cannot have land here.’ Because — of course, those are the extremists and fundamentalists — who said: ‘There is a demographic design, to change the population.’ So absurd.
I wish the Government of India had realised that the consequences of this can be very serious, if you condone it.
Combating terrorism
On the issue of terrorism, what’s the difference between your handling of it and the present government’s?
My handling was not confined to merely following up an event. After an incident occurs, investigate, apprehend the culprits, punish them. It was a continuing process. During NDA regime, the terrorist threat was very serious and therefore the IB agencies and the other agencies dealing with terrorists were told to carry out continuing and vigorous search for the ISI modules, wherever they are. And apprehend them, destroy them. That process went on continuously. Nearly every year, a large number of modules were destroyed. That process stopped. And even when events occur, the investigations have been of such a nature that till today so many incidents have occurred which I can list out and there has not been a single case in which people have been charge-sheeted, what to say of punished.
Hindutva as cultural nationalism
The last question: on Hindutva. You have written a great deal on it in terms of ‘cultural nationalism.’ You have been charged with majoritarianism and worse. In response to the contemporary situation, what is your summation of Hindutva?
Majoritarianism is a word coined: it can be applied to America, it can be applied to every democracy. But the fact is that in India political parties, after Partition, came to the conclusion that even though India has been divided on the basis of Hindu and Muslim, we would like it to be a successful democracy. So let us run the government, run the country through this process of elections and vote.
In the process, however, some people discovered that Hindus are not a homogeneous community: they are divided into castes, they are divided into languages, and their identity is more related to that caste or language than to the fact that they are Hindus. In the case of Muslims, it’s different. In that case, it is the religious identity which is predominant. Therefore, if you want to get votes, you try to mobilise vote banks — casteist, linguistic vote banks in the case of the Hindus, religious vote banks in the case of the Muslims or the Christians. That is the reason why all this came in.
So far as we are concerned, we have held that … it was my first party general secretary, Deendayal Upadhyaya [1916-1968], who taught us that in India, Hinduism is not the name of a religion. It’s more of a national connotation. I was just reading an old book by that famous historian of philosophy, Will Durant. It was banned by the Britishers. Because it was Will Durant’s The Case for India [Simon and Schuster, New York, 1930], an excellent book about how the Britishers tortured India, what they did here. But in that he again and again uses the word ‘Hindu.’ ‘I have not consulted any Hindu while writing this,’ meaning I have not consulted any Indian. For him, Hindu and Indian are totally synonymous.
I was telling you about Deendayal Upadhyaya, who has been the greatest influence on me, in terms of conduct as well as in terms of my thinking. He said: ‘In independent India, we want India to be a secular country in which all citizens are equal. Hindutva should be equated to Bharatiyata. Bharatiyat is a Hindu. Indianness and Hindutva are synonymous. Don’t make a distinction between the two. It should mean nationalism essentially.’ Therefore it is that I grew up with cultural nationalism.

Christina Aguilera's feet increased by two sizes when she was pregnant |

Christina Aguilera’s ‘footie fever’
Christina Aguilera's feet increased by two sizes when she was pregnant. The 27-year-old singer - who gave birth to Max Liron, her first child with husband Jordan Bratman, in January — admits she was stunned by the amount her petite feet ballooned in size. She said: "My stomach was really where I carried my weight. Toward the end of my pregnancy, I felt really big — I gained about 40lbs, which is a lot for my size. My hips also changed significantly. And my feet grew from a size five-and-a-half to a size seven in flats!" Christina also revealed she was thrilled when she returned to her regular size, because she could start wearing her old clothes and shoes again. She said: "Thank God my feet went back to normal.
I would have been so depressed if I had to get rid of my shoe collection!" The Dirrty singer also spoke about her upcoming album, the follow-up to her hit 2006 record 'Back To Basics', and said while having Max has encouraged her to go in a "playful direction" with her music, she will also explore the issue of domestic violence in her lyrics. She added to an American magazine: "Of course you have compassion for children, but when you have your own, you feel it on a much deeper level. So I'm motivated to speak out even more — to do more charity work and to help children find safe homes."

Jennifer Lopez, post-delivery Care |
Like JLo, are you determined to get rid of the calories you’ve accumulated post-delivery?
Singer and Hollywood actress, Jennifer Lopez, was recently caught holidaying with her husband Marc Antony in Italy togged in a bikini and accessorised with ungainly post-pregnancy flab. That needn’t be you, for the good news is while most Indian women gain about 10 to 12 kilos during pregnancy, if they take proper care, they can manage to lose eight kilos within a month of delivery.
For one, breast feeding aids weightloss, as with every feed, the mother burns about 200 to 300 calories. Also, it propels hunger and a need for balanced diet with an emphasis on calcium and iron. However, in the haste to lose weight, a crash diet or vigorous exercise could pose several problems too. But here’s how you start to lose those extra calories accumulated over time along with your bundle of joy.
LOSING FLAB
You can begin your fitness routine ten days after natural delivery. However, if you’ve had a caesarean delivery, you’ll have to wait for 30 to 35 days. In both cases, it is important to get the doctor’s approval before starting.
STEP ONE:
Take 20 to 25-minute mild walks in the open or on the treadmill. Remember to start at a leisurely pace. You can also resume light household chores. Avoid lifting heavy objects.
STEP TWO: You can begin with some asanas 15 days after giving birth. Concentrate on your back, abdomen and hips for these are the areas that undergo the most drastic changes during pregnancy. For instance, Bhujang asana stretches the spine and strengthens the back, Trikon asana stretches the back muscles, Uttanasana stretches the legs, back and arms. Breathing exercises are also recommended for lactating mothers. Another option is Pilates – this focuses on revving the stressed core muscles and provide support to the spine that has supported the baby’s weight for nine months.
STEP THREE:
Once the stitches have healed, you can begin swimming. Urgent exercising can cause injury, especially to the knee and back. Swimming therefore is the least risky workout method. But make sure your wounds have healed completely as the chlorine in the water can cause an infection.
Begin with three to four laps and gradually try different strokes and increase the number of laps. Water aerobics is also a good idea.
STEP FOUR:
You can hit the gym after two to three months, but do not jump into vigorous workout programmes. Work out thrice a week and continue your yoga and swimming routine too.
Post-pregnancy depression can also creep in because of hormonal imbalances and very often, a woman feels upset about the fat on her body. In such cases, joining a dance class is advisable. Dancing elevates the mood while burning calories. Remember, vigorous workouts are a no no.

Kiran Rao ‘Working with Aamir is intense |

Kiran Rao is venturing into the territory of independent filmmaking with her own production house — a part of the overall banner of Aamir Khan Productions, she emphasises — and will be directing the film Dhobi Ghaat. The industry has several couples, both of whom are actors or singers, but there is no couple where the husband and wife are both directors. There is no couple where they are both producers. And there certainly is no couple where the husband and wife are both producers and directors — who, as Aamir subtly adds, “think differently”.
What’s made her chart this course and how does she see cinema differently? Kiran says, “The reason I started an independent company is because I am interested in cinema for cinema’s sake. I don’t understand the dynamics of commercial cinema very well. I watch a lot of films, experimental, avantgrade, animation — I’d like to see more films like the one I am making. I feel it needs encouragement of a different nature from commercial cinema, which is driven by market requirements. Besides the films I direct, as a producer I hope to take up subjects that mainstream producers will shy away from handling.”
Now that she’s his spouse, what’s it like working with Aamir? “It’s exciting and intense, and yet a lot of fun,” she replies. “I knew that working with him was something I would love to do all my life. We work well together, and while as professionals we have our own aesthetics, our own ideas, we still understand each other and have a lot of common ground... But while we don’t discuss cinema in general too often, we certainly keep talking about the things that we are doing, our plans. That doesn’t just come to the dining table, it comes to the bed, the bath, the balcony, pretty much everywhere!”
Have they changed each other since they met? Kiran goes first here. “I was very idealistic about cinema, and didn’t quite understand the realities, the things that drive cinema. He’s sensitised me much more to the process. He’s also shown me how important it is to listen. I used to be pretty dismissive of what other people thought. He listens to everybody, then does what he feels is right. I still haven’t got there, but I’m trying. When you’re with someone you are happiest with, it changes how much you are able to give of yourself. I think my relationship with him has made me more compassionate. What this has done to me is that not just do I need more, but I give more, personally as well as creatively.”
Quid pro, Aamir? “I think there’s been a dramatic change in me as a person. I am much more easygoing, I’m much more relaxed … She came into my life when I was going through my worst phase, personally, and things have looked up after that. Her personality is so bright, happy and vivacious that it is infectious. That has a strong effect on me. And our relationship is such that we are friends first.” And then he reflects, “Maybe, for me, the change after we came together has been much more personal. For her, it has been much more professional.”
Aamir lights up and one asks Kiran, how are you letting him get away with smoking? “Nobody lets Aamir ‘get away’ with anything,” she laughs. “He does what he wants to, pretty much. I know he’ll put it aside soon, once he decides to. You see, Aamir has an amazingly obsessive personality. When he latches on to something, he just doesn’t let go... Like when he was training, he’d spend four hours, five hours a day in the gym. Nothing is by half measures. Everything he does is by heaped measures!”

Actress UMA THURMAN — Who Recently Announced |

Mandira to wed Kumble? It's Really? |
The story of Meera and her cricket-cum-Kumble fixation goes thus: Maths teacher Meera Achrekar (who, incidentally, is played by cricket’s glam woman Mandira Bedi) is cricket’s — and Kumble’s — biggest female fan (her temple is the Wankhede Stadium). She eats, drinks, breathes and lives for the game. But her life becomes a googly when Cupid strikes and she has to choose between love and her love for cricket. “Through the film, I am somehow connected to this lady fan of mine. Whenever she thinks or talks of me, I get hiccups! The story is about her love for me and the game, and how her life changes because of that,” says Kumble, not willing to reveal the final result of the match, err, movie.
But he opens up when talking about his experience in front of the camera. No, he wasn’t camera shy, after all, he’s done so many advertisement shoots before. And did he ever have to deal with a real-life crazy female fan situation?
“Yes, I’ve had the usual letters written in blood and everything; it’s quite scary actually. Fans react to celebrities differently when they see them faceto-face; some don’t believe it, some get over-excited. Their initial reaction is always interesting to see,” says Kumble. So, how’s he behind the camera,
as an actor? Nandy says, “He’s as cool in front of the camera as he is on the field. His strength, both in cricket and in movies, is his easygoing manner.” Another fun ‘spin’ in the film is a scene where Meera aka Mandira Bedi criticises, well, Mandira Bedi, accusing her of wearing noodle-straps and glamourising the game! Howzzat!

DREAM NEIGHBOUR
Wasn't it every boy's dream growing up to fall in love with a neighbour as hot as Elisha Cuthbert in The Girl Next Door? The 25-year old Canadian actress first came into notice as the co-host of the children's TV series, Popular Mechanics for Kids. But it really was playing the ex-pornstar Danielle of The Girl Next Door that made all the men sit up and add the latest blonde to their hot-list. Her film career thereafter has been rather indifferent, but Elisha's popularity has only risen, as she made it to the fourth spot on FHM's 100 sexiest women of 2008.

Sania Mirza tryst with Wimbledon, films and fitness |
Playing on the most competitive turf after being operated upon for a wrist injury requires a lot of guts and gumption. And the poster girl of Indian tennis, Sania Mirza, has it in plenty. Although her performance at Wimbledon (singles) may not have grabbed headlines, for India's highest ranked woman tennis star, it was the decision to play that was more challenging. Taking all the hits and misses in her stride.
On Wimbledon
Despite her good performance at Wimbledon in the doubles, she couldn't really hold on to the winning streak in the singles. Analysing her performance, she says, "I'm still sometime away from playing my best game because I had my wrist operated upon only 10 weeks back. Under the circumstances, personally, it was important for me to still give my best at Wimbledon." She was seeded 32nd in Wimbledon, so ask her if she has any strategy to break into the top 30 and Sania says, "There's been just one main strategy ever since I picked up a tennis racket and that is to work hard. That will continue." Helping her in this endeavour is her new coach Sven Groeneveld (who also coached the current number one Ana Ivanovic). "He is a very senior coach and I have a lot of respect for him," she says. Ask her what she's enjoying in London and Sania says, "During grand slams, all my energy is focused on the game and I have had very little time to do else."

Injury woes
It's a hectic circuit for tennis players these days and injuries are a part and parcel of a sportsperson's life. Talking about it, she says, "In today's professional tennis, there is no way one can compete without pushing one's body to the limits and this causes injuries to each and every player in the top 100 bracket. Some of the world's most athletic and talented players, including Kim Clijsters, have had to retire at 23 because of injuries. We professional athletes have to live with injuries and there are never any guarantees of our physical well-being."
India calling
Ask her if the news that the Indian government may soon release a postage stamp with her photograph overwhelms her and she says, "I have read about this in the newspapers. I just play tennis to bring glory to my country. It has not been my endeavour to see my picture on a postage stamp."
Tennis and tinsletown
When the living legend of Bollywood Amitabh Bachchan comes calling on the glam girl of Indian tennis, there's bound to be a buzz. Talking about the meeting, which happened while the Big B was shooting for a film in a Mumbai studio and Sania was in the vicinity, she says, "It was a privilege to meet Mr Bachchan and I thoroughly enjoyed the wonderful experience. I had interacted with him on the sets of Kaun Banega Crorepati." Ask her if talks of a biographical movie is being made on her life and Sania replies, "Right now, I have more important things on my mind"

Madonna has recruited Britney Spears |

Madonna has recruited Britney Spears for a virtual appearance on her upcoming tour.
"There is footage being shot of Britney some time this week in conjunction with Madonna's upcoming (Sticky & Sweet) tour," Madonna's publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said in an e-mail Tuesday to The Associated Press. "That is all the information I have available. The rest is `a secret.'"
Rosenberg denied reports that Spears, 26, is shooting a music video.
Madonna guest starred in a music video for Spears' single "Me Against the Music" in 2003. The singers stirred up controversy that year with an open-mouth kiss at the MTV Video Music Awards.
Madonna, 49, will kick off her tour Aug. 23 in Cardiff, Wales, and wind through European destinations including London and Paris before jumping to the U.S. in October.
She'll wrap it up Nov. 30 in Mexico City.

Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban Welcome a Baby Girl |
"Husband Keith was by Nicole's side, and mother and baby are very well," said spokesman Paul Freundlich, who added that the couple were "delighted" to make the announcement. He also said the baby girl weighed 6 lbs., 7.5 oz.
The pregnancy was first announced in January. Kidman has two other children with her former husband Tom Cruise: Isabella, 15, and Connor, 13.
In the days leading up to the birth, the couple – who celebrated their second wedding anniversary on June 25 – didn't stray from their normal routine in and around Nashville, where they reside in a gated community.
From early morning stops at a local Starbucks for warm drinks to a little sweat at the gym later in the day (Kidman was a regular at spin and yoga classes during her pregnancy), the couple remained low-key.
"She's never been happier and healthier," says a close family friend. "She is absolutely radiant and enjoying nesting and homemaking with Keith at their new home in Nashville."
But getting ready for their baby was a priority. Urban admitted he was learning a new vocabulary for fatherhood and doing Lamaze lessons. "He doesn't know the name [of the classes], but he has been very good at it!" Kidman told a local radio station on June 24.
The new parents also bought a couple of books to help them along: Pocket Dad: Everyday Wisdom and Your Pregnancy, Week By Week.
"The unknown excites me a lot," Urban told reporters in May. "What kind of feelings will fatherhood bring? I'm sure I can't even imagine, but I am really looking forward to finding out."

Bollywood Actress 'Sameera Reddy' ...Her Relationship |

‘It’s difficult playing dumb!’
Sameera Reddy’s all set for comedies, animation and even TV this year
Ask Sameera Reddy anything other than work-related questions and she refuses to get drawn into controversial area. So anything to do with her relationship with ex-boyfriend builder Shamshul Lalani remains unanswered. “I will never comment on my personal life. That’s one thing I guard more than anything,” she says. However, we press her to at least put an end to all those rumours doing the rounds about her seeing cricket’s poster boy Ishant Sharma. “I supported Shah Rukh Khan’s team in the IPL and so, I must have been seen at a lot of matches. That must have created some silly rumour. The less said, the better about it,” she says. But was she seen with Ishant in particular? “I met the whole team,” she says refusing to get further drawn into the conversation.
Talk about work and Sam is more than glad to answer. “I recently had an amazing schedule for Red Alert which is based on the Naxalite movement. It’s a very interesting role that sees me transform from a simple village girl to a coldhearted killer,” she says about her role. Some portions of the film were shot in forest areas which totally creeped her out! “I don’t like keeda-makodas and here, I had to be bare-feet and have grasshoppers and other kind of insects crawl over my feet. I used to get paranoid!” she shudders at the memory.
The actress is also veering towards comedy these days, especially after getting good reviews for her dumb-girl act in Race. “Believe me, it’s quite difficult playing dumb! I couldn’t relate to the role at all. But the biggest compliment I get is when people come up to me and repeat my dialogues from the film. That’s given me a green signal to go ahead with more comedy films,” she adds. Sameera hopes to work with the king of comedy, Govinda, one day. “Talks are on for a film, let’s see,” she says with a smile. Apart from that, Sameera will also be seen in an animation film Mahayudha Ram, where she will lent her voice for Sita. “The value system of the epic will remain the same but Ram and Sita will be someone people can relate to now more easily,” she says. This year will also mark the foray of the actress into television. “I will be the judge on a reality dance show called
Kabhi Kabhii Pyaar, Kabhi Kabhii Yaar.
TV is a very powerful medium and I’m very excited about this show,” she says.
For somebody who’s also explored serious cinema with films like Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Kaalpurush, The Voyeurs and Mira Nair’s Migration, does Sameera expect to do a balancing act with her masala films? “See it’s these kind of films that have made me get recognition as a good actress,” explains Sameera, “I see Sridevi as great inspiration because she did a number of strong memorable performances while also doing films like Chaalbaaz. She’s the greatest example of how you can get the best of both worlds.”

RajniKanth's Daughter Aishwarya & Actor Dhanush Wedding Photos |
RajniKanth's Daughter Aishwarya & Actor Dhanush Wedding Photos, RealLife Photos
The wedding on November 18 was a simple, quiet affair conducted at Rajnikanth's Poes Garden bungalow. The high profile guest was Rajni's neighbour, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
The wedding ceremony was unusual because the thali (the South Indian version of the mangalsutra) was given to the bridegroom by Rajnikanth's guru, director K Balachander (unlike in the normal circumstances when the thali is presented by the father himself). After the wedding, it was work as usual for Rajni, as he chose to shoot for his new film, Chandramukhi.
Unlike the wedding, the reception on November 21 conducted at the Mayor Sri Ramanathan Chettiar Centre was a grand affair.

Outside the hall stood hundreds of people waiting to catch a glimpse of the stars. Rajni had instructed his fans not to come to Chennai to wish the young couple, as it would pose law and order problems.
Except for the VIPs, the others stood in queue, and produced the wedding invitation to gain entry into the hall. They did not seem to mind. After all, this was no ordinary wedding reception!
All guests had to go through a security check on the ground floor. The reception was on the second floor while vegetarian food was served on the first floor.

Though people like actor Vijay's wife had been calling to wish the couple right from the morning, the function started at 6 pm.
The bride wore a red gold-sequined sari and the bridegroom wore a white silk dhoti and shirt. They were there on stage with their respective parents and relatives. Like his son-in-law, Rajni was also attired in a white silk dhoti and shirt while his wife Lata looked radiant in a golden silk sari.
Dhanush's father Kasthuriraja, Rajnikanth, Chandrababu Naidu, Aishwarya, Dhanush, Dhanush's mother Vijaylaxmi, and Lata

Sridevi is the daughter of actor Vijayakumar, a close friend of Rajni.
Accompanying them were Shriya Reddy and her sister, Deepti. Shriya's first film with Mammootty, Black has just been released in Kerala.
Sridevi (second from left) and Soundarya (third from left)

One of the first VIPs to arrive was DMK leader M Karunanidhi. As Jayalalithaa was expected to be present (and she was), Karunanidhi had stayed away from the wedding ceremony.
The moment Karunanidhi entered, Rajni stepped down from the stage and escorted him to the couple. While departing too, Karunanidhi was seen leaning on Rajni's shoulder. Karunanidhi's nephews Dayanidhi Maran and Kalanidhi Maran accompanied him, his son M K Stalin arrived later.
With Karunanidhi (third from right)

Only the VVIPs were taken directly to the stage. Prominent actors, actresses and technicians had to stand in long queues to wish the couple. Hundreds of police personnel and security people from several agencies were engaged to control the crowd.
This year's National Award winner Vikram strolled in, clad in a white shirt and black trousers, with long curls down flowing down his head. This was his new look for Shankar's Anniyan. Madhavan arrived with his wife.
Vijay and Surya were present at the wedding, they were not seen at the reception. Though major stars from the Telugu and Kannada attended either the wedding or the reception, there were no artistes from the Malayalam film industry. Also noted was the absence of Tamil star Ajith.
Top: With Madhavan and wife. Bottom: With Vikram

With Jackie Shroff and Vinod Khanna

The invited continued applauding when Amitabh Bachchan hugged Rajni.
Both Aishwarya and Dhanush touched his feet and sought his blessings. In return, he kissed Dhanush!
With Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan

But Rajni and his wife looked like the happiest parents smiling at guests and accepting their wishes. They seemed to enjoy every moment of one of the biggest day in their daughter's life.

Actress SONAL CHAUHAN - Interview |

Actress SONAL CHAUHAN - Interview
With Jannat turning out to be big hit, you must be on cloud nine now!
Indeed, I am on heavens literally. Jannat's success has really put me on Jannat (laughs). It is certainly a dream debut as you mentioned. People are recognizing me and appreciated my work. I hope Rainbow brings me the same success in Telugu as well.
Were you not apprehensive that acting in a Bhatt movie requires lot of skin show?
No. There is not much skin in the film. I knew it is clean movie.
Anyhow, what is your take on exposing?
I might sound clichéd but I never wear anything that I am uncomfortable in. The idea of skin show varies from person to person. I don't feel awkward in shorts but some others might find it 'exposing'. Personally, I am not in favour of excessive glamour.

Would you do on screen smooches?
I didn't do them on Jannat. Nor would I lip lock in future. That is, onscreen.
When you got the chance to debut in Bhatt's movies, what made you to come down to Telugu?
Soon after I finished Jannat, V N Aditya sir called me after seeing my portfolio through my agent. He was impressed and insisted on me signing this. After all, it is a superb script and my character is well-etched. I must say after finishing the film now, my faith in the script is reinforced and the movie has come out well. I hope that it turns out to be big hit as well. My fingers are crossed now.
Tell us about your character in Rainbow?
I am playing the role of an actress in the movie who aspires to become big in Tollywood. It is very central to the film.
Sounds like a your real life story..
ha..ha.. Not real but it is similar to any girl who aspires to become big in glam field.
How is it working with V N Aditya and your co-stars?
I must say this film unit is the most comfortable one and Aditya sir is the gentleman. He is the nicest person that I ever come across. He is truly genuine and affable director.

How did you start your career..
I am basically from Uttar Pradesh but completed my schooling in Delhi Public School. Then I shifted to Mumbai and had done modelling. I did romping and commercials for big brands including Lays (with Saif Ali Khan), Pepsi (with John Abrams).
I participated in a lot of pageantry all over the world. As you are aware, I got through the much-happening Miss World (Tourism) show. That brought me a great beginning wherever I went. Crowds, young or old, cheered me with love and affection. To say there will not be a full-stop in my career, the title of Miss India favored me.
Who are your favorite actress and actors?
They are Kajol and Sharukh Khan.
You look so anorexic? Are you in favor of size Zero glam?
Really, do I look like that? I am very healthy and eat good food. I don't believe in Size Zero nor do I suggest anyone.
Are you in love?
Hobbies?
I love eating and sleeping.
What kind of dress you like most?
T shirts and Shorts.
